Monday Morning Memo------------------September 8th

Good Morning:

About 80 people enjoyed the Hospitality Committee’s first event of the fall season, a potluck at Sunset Ramada, on Labor Day. Lots and lots of good food, cooperative weather, and friendship were the hallmarks of the event. Our thanks to our Committee for planning, setting up, cleaning up, and all else they do for us.

Our Hospitality Committee is planning its first fall Hamburger Nite for October 14th. Watch for details.

Our new webmaster, Craig Surprise, will be available to answer your questions about the EE web site and new forum at the Sunset Ramada between 9 and 10 o’clock on Wednesday, Sept. 17th. If you’re a complete novice and haven’t even figured out how to find our web site or forum on the Internet, Craig will be able to get you pointed in the right direction. If you are a regular user with questions about how something works (or doesn’t!), he’ll be available to answer your questions. If you have a suggestion about something you would like to see on the web site, or an idea for a new discussion topic to be added to the forum, be sure to stop by and let him know.

We have had another report of a rattlesnake attempting to strike a resident in his yard--but fortunately being unsuccessful. Once again, use caution when out and about, as the snakes are moving around. So are the tarantulas; however, unlike the snakes they are harmless.

The following email was recently received:

On Thursday, September 11th, 2008, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this seventh anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds
.

One of our residents is saving pop tops (that part of a soft drink or beer can that snaps off to open it for drinking) for the Ronald McDonald House in Tucson. This is a charity that provides housing for out of town family members while a child is being treated long-term in a hospital in Tucson. The aluminum in these tops can be sold, and the proceeds used to support the charity. A special can will be placed at Sunset Ramada for the collection of these tops, and residents are asked to contribute them for this purpose. They can be snapped off the cans in just an instant. This is a worthwhile endeavor and your help is solicited and appreciated.

Our Joan White, wife of Don and long time EE resident on Napa, wants it known that she is not the author of the letter to the editor that appeared in the Green Valley News and Sun, issue of Wednesday September 3rd.  Instead it was written by another lady of the same name who resides in another subdivision.

So far there are five private functions scheduled and in the process of being scheduled for Sunset Ramada for the months of September and October, in addition to the two of the Hospitality Committee. If you have an event to schedule, it is pretty simple. Check with the Board (call 399-0455), then post it on the calendar at the Ramada bulletin board and post it on the Forum on the EE website at www.esperanzaestates.net Generally it is first come, first served, so get your request in as early as possible. Use is welcomed and there are only a few simple rules to date.

Three more memorial bricks will soon be installed at Sunset Ramada. This program remains open, and if you have a loved one, an event, a date, or whatever to memorialize in perpetuity, just let us know. The cost per brick is only $50, and all sale proceeds are used for Ramada purposes.

Two of the new bricks were purchased to commemorate loved ones. The third was purchased anonymously by a homeowner in EE for Emil Ziemer and Paul Rowland, two of our resident handymen, because of their honesty and integrity in dealing with her fairly. This is a fine testimonial to two talented craftsmen, who have also done a lot of work for the HOA, much of it without any charge.

Regular monthly HOA Board meetings will begin again after the summer recess on Monday, September 15th, at Sunset Ramada, beginning at 1:00pm. All residents are invited to attend.

Have a good week.
