September 28

Good Morning:

The first fall Board meeting was held at Sunset Ramada last Monday. It was lightly attended, and lasted only an hour. Minutes of the meeting can be found on our website, where they are always posted promptly after each meeting. Regular monthly meetings will be held each month from now until the next summer recess in 2010. Meetings always begin at 1:00, on the third Monday of each month, at Sunset Ramada. Residents are always welcome.

Some rot has been found in the door jams of the rest/changing rooms at the pool. Repairs have been ordered.

At a few of our social events a few months back, we sold chances on guessing the correct amount of rain that we would experience this monsoon. The weather people determined a couple of years ago that officially the monsoon would be considered to be over as of September 30. Barring a rain storm over the next couple of days (not likely), it looks like the winning guess will be about 4.87 inches--or as close to that number as any entrant guessed. The winner will be determined as of Wednesday, and notified, and will receive the prize of a portion of the raffle proceeds. The balance, as was advertised, will go to the Enhancement Team's efforts to purchase more sun/wind screens for the Ramada.

MOVING SALE: 821 NAPA, OCTOBER 24TH, FROM 7:30 A.M.

The first fundraiser of the season will be a moving sale, thanks to former Circulo Napa residents Jon and Lynn Raby. For organizing the sale - pricing, setting up, and manning the sale - the Enhancement Team will receive a reasonable commission. Proceeds will be used for additional sun/wind screens on the Ensalmo side of the Sunset Ramada. The team hopes this will be just the first moving sale - a service that will benefit residents who are moving or downsizing, as well as improvements to the EE community.

Some items that the team has already collected for the annual spring Patio Sale at the Ramada will be included in this moving sale. If you have household items in good condition that you would like to donate, contact Denise (399-3312), Geri (777-4972) or Barb (867-8067). Arrangements can be made for pick-up.

Have you ever considered writing your memoirs, whether for publication or to leave for your family? The Society of Southwestern Authors' Santa Cruz Valley Chapter is kicking off its 2009-10 season on Monday, October 5th, with a presentation by Marilyn Pate, entitled "Your Memoir, Your Treasure." Author of two books, including her recently released memoir "Everyday Evil," and frequent memoir workshop leader, Marilyn will inspire you to write your life stories. Bring paper and pencil and come prepared to write, as Marilyn walks you through the mechanics of memoir, offers ways to tweak your memory, and provides tips on the effective use of humor, history and honesty as you begin this rewarding journey. The SCV Chapter of SSA meetings are held in the large conference room at Joyner Library in GV, 1:00-2:45 pm, and are open to the public, no admission charge. If you are interested in learning more about the SSA or our local chapter, you may sign up for their email announcement list at the October 5th meeting, or contact Denise Roessle, SCV Chapter President, at droessle@mac.com or 399-3312.

Remember as well our love story project. Contact Sandy Reed, 393-1427, or Melodye Cooke, 399-0455 for details. Quite a number have been turned in and they are most interesting reading. Add yours to the collection. Help is available to write your story from a professional author, so go for it.

It has been suggested that all persons who have a watering system inspect the same with some regularity. These systems have a history of failure, which can be expensive in many ways beyond just wasting water. A number have failed within our subdivision and have caused a lot of damage.

On October 8 from 9:00 am until noon in Suite 3 at the Green Valley Village (Mall) there will be a workshop/forum scheduled by the GVCCC for the three trash collection companies operating in Green Valley, during which each will provide information about what they offer. These include Saguaro and Talking Trash, the two companies which serve EE. If you are not happy with your current collection company and are thinking about changing, this would be the place where you could find out about the other one.

Twice each year, the GVCCC sponsors a household hazardous waste collection. This program, initiated by the County, has been very successful for the past ten years. The fall collection is currently scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 17th at the Valley Presbyterian Church parking lot. At this time, however, due to a reduction in the Pima County budget, that collection event MAY BE CANCELLED. GVCCC advises that the cost for these two collection events is approximately $10,000 and this expense, along with many other line item expenses, was eliminated in order to balance the County's Budget. Supervisor Ray Carroll has been very supportive of efforts to resurrect the collection program, but County Administrator Chuck Huckleberry has remained steadfast in his position that funds are not available. On October 6th, through the efforts of Coordinating Council member Bill Katzel, GVCCC is on the agenda to appear before the Board of Supervisors to make one more appeal. We hope that we will be successful in our efforts to proceed with the collection of household hazardous waste, as many from Esperanza Estates have used this service.

A number of front gate violations involving non-conforming colors have been observed within EE recently. Under the CC&R's front gates must be black in color. Unless corrected, Board action will become necessary. If this applies to your home, please take action to conform it to the rules.

About 35 Rotarians from the Valle Verde Rotary Club enjoyed a barbeque and a good time at Sunset Ramada Friday evening. Remember, the Ramada was built for all EE owners to enjoy. If you wish to schedule a private group function, there are only a few simple rules. Call 399-0455 for details.

There should be an issue of the Periodico appearing in the next week or so. Publication is always suspended when the Board is in recess over the summer, but starts up again each fall. If you have an article, advertisement, or anything for the Periodico, contact Arleen Boyuls, manager and editor, at aboyuls@qwest.net

The editor will be traveling over the next few days and the Memo will come to you from alternate editor Bruce Liljegren.

Have a good week. We are now one week into official fall, although record high temps are predicted for today.
