August 31

Good Morning:

Many thanks to Bruce Liljegren for editing and sending out the Memo for the past three weeks--with a lot of help from our webmaster, Craig Surprise, on re-creating the email address list. The list recently crashed and had to be put back together. The Memo now goes out to approximately 250 households, and keeping track of the addresses has been a considerable task. With Craig’s help, we are attempting to create a master list with an independent email service which will always be kept up to date, and as far as possible, be made “crash proof”.

This past week, the Memo was sent out using a different email service. If you hear from anyone who didn't receive the MMM, please ask them to look in their 'spam' folder to see if it was put there because the sender ('ee_mondaymorningmemo@msn.com' or 'EE-MMM') was not a trusted sender. In the future, if a different email service is used to send out the MMM, we will try to give advance notice of the change.

The mechanical timer that controls the pool lights, and some of the Ramada lighting, is worn out and not functioning correctly. A new one has been obtained and EE resident Richard Magnuson has offered to install it. Richard regularly helps out our HOA, and we are glad to have him.

A nude woman swimmer was reported to have been seen at approximately 7:20 pm Saturday at the pool. Pool users are reminded that wearing appropriate swimming attire is required.

If you are following the debate on the checkpoint, here is the latest:

The long awaited GAO Checkpoint Report will be released next Monday, August 31. The full report will be posted that afternoon on the GAO website: www.gao.gov and Congresswoman Giffords’ website: www.giffords.house.gov

Congresswoman Giffords will convene a public meeting at which the GAO Study Team will present their findings and recommendations. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 2 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at the West Social Center, 1111 Via Arcoiris in Green Valley.

Regular meetings of the Board of Esperanza Estates will commence on September 21. Meetings are always at 1:00 p.m., and held at Sunset Ramada. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Our fountain in Sunset Park had mysteriously quit working about a month ago, but has now has just as mysteriously began functioning again. A quick check of the breakers at the pool was made when it was noted the pump had stopped, and showed no apparent problem. Plans were in the works to replace the pump, which now apparently can be shelved. Hard to tell what happened.

Many thanks to Sam Barnard for repair work on our Ramada barbeque, which had stopped working. Sam reports it is functioning correctly now. Sam serves both on the EE Board of Directors and with the Hospitality Committee, and takes care of our flags as well. He is a valuable man in Esperanza Estates.

There a few private functions scheduled for the Ramada during September, but no Hospitality events as of yet.

In the Monday Morning Memo of April 20 of this year, there appeared a request for love stories because two EE residents had proposed putting together a compilation of such stories for publication. The solicitation of such stories has appeared a few times since, and about 10 have been prepared so far--all very readable and interesting. More are wanted so please give this some thought. Everybody has been in love with someone, a pet, a place, or anything else in your life that has brought love feelings into your life. It can be very brief, or a several page effort, and if you are not into writing, our resident published author Sandy Reed will meet with you and write it for you. Sandy has written several published books, and is an expert story teller. You can call and talk to him about this project at 393-1427, or email him at areed56@cox.net.   Talk about your childhood memories, family history, lighthearted incidents, traditions, dreams and spiritual adventures encountered by you over your lifetime of living. The world awaits hearing your story, as only you can tell it.

We have just learned of the death of Don Visser, Saturday, August 29. Our condolences to his family. Don was a long time resident of EE, and was a White Elephant volunteer.

Have a good week. By the calendar, summer is about over; can't tell that from the temperatures, though. Feels like June. Driest monsoon in recent memory. The official station in Continental reports 3.82 inches of rain for the last 75 days--far below normal expectations.
