Monday Morning Memo------------August 25th

Good Morning:

Our big news this week is the re-opening of the Esperanza Estates Forum on our website, www.esperanzaestates.net Our webmaster, Craig Surprise, has spent countless hours putting together a comprehensive and useful place for all of our residents and visitors to the site to learn the latest that is going on, view a calendar of current events and happenings, find a tradesperson, buy or sell something, send a message, make a comment or suggestion, or just exchange ideas. All readers are invited to go to the website and click on the link to Forum & Events Calendar, which will open up the Forum home page. From there you can navigate to all of the Forum’s features, and try them out. The new version of the Forum has some security features not on the previous version, which are designed to keep the site free from the annoying commercial messages that kept popping up before. Please try out the new and improved Forum, and let us know what you think. You can leave a comment on the Forum. Finally, our new webmaster will be here in September, and we will try to set up a meeting where he can answer any questions about the Forum, or its use.

Remember the Hospitality Committee’s planned Labor Day potluck, set to begin at Sunset Ramada at 4:30 on September 1st. Bring a dish to share and your own alcohol--all else will be provided by the Committee. Mark your calendar. This will be the Committee’s “kick-off” event for the coming fall and winter, and these functions are always fun and a good time. We’ll see you there.

One of our residents was bitten by a rattle snake Saturday evening in her yard, going up some steps. She is currently hospitalized. This serves as a reminder to be careful where you step especially at night, keep your garage doors down when possible, and the use of security lights is strongly encouraged. Be very careful walking around your patio and garage areas after dark without a light on.

The HOA is in need of a woodworker to take care of a one-time job. Only moderate skill is required. This is a paid task. Call if interested, 399-0455.

The plumbing leaks in the spa have been repaired and the spa is functioning normally. A work light in the pool pump room has been replaced, as it was causing problems with the electrical circuit, and blowing breakers in the panel. Pool enclosure weeds have been sprayed once again. Sunset Ramada was given a cleaning recently, as it will soon be put back into service by our Hospitality Committee, and others. Some new cleaning equipment has been acquired for this purpose. During a clean-out of the pool equipment room, it was found that a family of mice had moved in. Unfortunately, it didn’t appear to be Mickey and Minnie. Some lethal mouse treats were left for them to snack on.

Kudos to Don and Joan White, for spending part of their swim time at the pool cleaning some of the mineral deposits that form along portions of the pool edge. Kudos as well to Nancy Moore, who volunteered to trim up a bush at the entrance to the pool.

The Bunco group that was attempting to form has decided to await the return of our winter visitors, in order to have sufficient players. Watch for further announcements.

Two new Block Captains have been recruited for our Neighborhood Watch program, as follows:

Zone 22: Terry Jackson, 548-3212, 1201 Excelso. This zone includes lots 314 through 334, being addresses 1051 to 1221 on the south side of Excelso.

Zone 3: Hope Allen, 393-1390, 690 Nueva. This zone includes lots 33 through 49, being addresses 627 to 743 on the south side of Nueva.

Terry assumes the position and area held by Audrey Ware for many years, and Hope assumes the area held by Helen Inman. Audrey is deceased, and Helen has had some health issues and is now in a care facility in Tucson.

Neighborhood Watch needs a volunteer for Zone 19. This is currently Dorita Navarro’s zone, but Dorita has asked to retire for health reasons. This area included lots 199 through 205, being 989 to 1041 on the south side of Regalo, and lots 349 through 354, being 160 to 184 on the west side of Camino Holgado.

Our always vigilant Neighborhood Watch Chair, Mary Beth Wallace thanks the new Captains and all of the volunteers who help out in this important program to keep our neighborhoods safe.

We are still seeking a volunteer who can do the chemical testing of the pool on Saturday and Sunday mornings only. This is a simple task, requiring only a few minutes, and you can help your HOA greatly by volunteering. Please call 399-0455 if you can help us out in this regard. Even if you could do only one of these days, please call.

If you have weeds in your yard, remember, our CC&R’s require you to take care of them. A few around EE are in need of attention. If health or financial issues prevent this, help is available. Call 399-0455 or 648-7235. Common area weeds are being sprayed by our landscapers--which is a process requiring several weeks to complete due to the size of the area and other work on the schedule.

The “nude swimmer” reported last week has vanished. Several have advised the editor they did early stakeouts of the pool to catch the culprit, but no one has seen her since the first appearance. Some hearsay evidence has surfaced, however, that she might be returning. We will pass on any further reports as received.

Have a good week.
