Good Morning:

Our Hospitality Committee is hosting a pot luck dinner on Labor Day, September 5th.  Please bring a dish to share. The Committee will supply 'the essentials' (napkins, paper plates, and utensils) as well as beer, wine, soft drinks, and ice.  Bring your own hard stuff if you desire a stiffer libation.  Happy hour begins at 4:30 pm; pot luck at 5:15.  It has been a long summer; plan on joining us for this first fall, Ramada event.

Since our fall events are starting, why not give some thought to having your own permanent name tag to use when attending Ramada functions? Tags are available for the nominal cost of $6.  Tags are inscribed with your name, and the name of the EE street you live on. They are quite nice in appearance, have a magnetic catch, and will relieve you of having to fill out one of those paper name tags that usually fall off part way through the evening.  Contact Melodye Cooke at 399-0455, or email her at melodye1@cox.net if you are interested.

The Photo of the Month contest in the Periodico will resume with the September issue. If you would like to enter, please email no more than three photos to Denise at droessle@mac.com (if you only have prints, you may deliver them to her at 801 Napa) by Monday, September 6th. We'd also like to feature some monsoon photos in the September issue--so our winter residents can see what they missed.  Please feel free to send those photos to Denise (whether for the contest or not.) You'll be credited as the photographer if we publish them.

A relative newcomer to EE , Bill Eads, has done a remarkable job of transforming one of our small common areas at the foot of Nueva, into a park-like condition. His work started as a project to help the drainage in the area, but then branched out into a general cleanup, new cactus plantings, and the rearrangement of stonework.  It looks terrific, and many thanks to Bill (and any helpers he had).  The HOA is always most appreciative for all help received from owners in keeping our common areas looking good. We have several in EE who regularly help out in this regard, and are grateful to have them.

An EE resident has several hundred regular bricks to give away at no charge (you load and haul).  If interested, call 289-4041.

The weed situation in the EE common areas (and some private yards as well!) has gotten completely out of hand. Our contract landscapers have been put on weed control alone--until we are able to get it under control. Apparently as a result of a low volume of winter rains this year, weeds which would have germinated earlier and been dealt with then, have now all decided to come up at once. This is the worst infestation in years, and coupled with the extra expense we had in dealing with the cold-weather damage to our palm trees, our landscape maintenance costs are going to be a serious monetary issue this year.

Have a good week.
