Monday Morning Memo

August 19, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

All's Quiet
Not much going on in the neighborhood this week. For excitement, residents are going to the redesigned Safeways to see the new layout. As a vertically challenged individual, I'm happy to hear some of the shelves are now easier to reach.

Social Security & Medicare Forum
Congressman Ron Barber will host the forum on Tuesday, August 20,
from 1-2 p.m. at the GV West Social Center. Max Richtman, JD National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) will be present to discuss your concerns. Refreshments will be served.

Indoor Activities at Joyner-Green Valley Library
Looking for something to exercise mind and body indoors? Our local library offers Laughter Yoga on Wednesdays from 2-3 pm. No mats--not even a sense of humor required.
On Saturday, August 24, from 9:30 to 11 am attend Wellness on the Web and learn how to evaluate the reliability of on-line health information.
Have a new i-Pad or e-Reader that has you frustrated and confused? One-on-one assistance is available by appointment on Saturday, August 31, from 1-4 pm. Call 594-5295 to arrange a thirty minute session. Basic introductory help is also available with a library-provided laptop.

Davis-Monthan Commissary
Mary Beth Wallace would like military retirees who use the commissary at Davis-Monthan AFB to know that the commissary has resumed opening on Mondays.

In Memoriam
We are saddened to learn that Earl Whigham, the developer of Esperanza Estates, passed away in Tucson on August 14. He was 90 years old. Mr. Whigham designed over 2000 homes in Tucson and Green Valley, but EE was the only one of his subdivisions in which he lived.

Former, long-time EE resident Joanne McGill passed away last week. Our condolences to her family and friends. Her daughter is Kathy Patience, 1924 Ridgeway Drive, Iowa City, IA 52245, if anyone would like to send a card.

You Know It's Summer in Green Valley...
when laundry languishes in the hamper as you delay using the dryer until overnight lows return to the 70's.
