Whooooo
Who Who's Up in that Tree?
The Great
Horned Owl family raised in a pine tree off the Ensalmo cul de
sac this spring continues to appear in the same area. Walkers in
the area can listen for the aggravated "cak-cak-cak" of a
Cooper's Hawk to locate the owls. The hawk, irritated that it's
favorite luncheon spot is occupied by a rival species, scolds to
no avail. The owls claim the tree for a day's rest. |
Tom Cooke's Exciting Day Trip
"If you are looking for a fun ways to spend a few hours,
try going to Tucson and riding the new SunTran trolley. It
runs from the Mercado district on the west side of I-10, through
downtown Tucson, along 4th avenue, University Avenue, past the
north side of the U of Arizona campus, and terminates near the
University Hospital--a distance of about 4 miles. The trip from
end to end takes about 40 minutes, depending on how many stops
it makes to allow passengers to get on or off. The cost is $1.50
each way, or you can purchase a 24 hour pass for $4 at most of
the kiosks where the trolley stops. The ticket machines accept
cash or credit cards. With the all day ticket you can get off or
on at any of the numerous stops along the route. There are
more than 100 places to eat and drink along the route, in
addition to being just a nice trip through interesting parts of
Tucson. It is fun to ride, and a great place to take your out of
town friends to show them a part of the city, and a good time.
The cars run every 10 minutes during the week, and every 20
minutes on the weekends. Plenty of free parking is available at
the Mercado end of the line.
