Saturday Movie Night
The movie next Saturday, July 14, should appeal to fans of
Westerns and Science Fiction films. Cowboys & Aliens is a 2011
Sci-Fi + Western movie starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia
Wilde. The main plot revolves around an amnesiac outlaw, a wealthy
cattleman and a mysterious traveler who must ally to save a group of
townspeople abducted by aliens.
We'll be using the Ramada sound system, so there will be great sound to
go with the 100 inch picture. The movie starts at 7:30. Please bring
your own refreshments and make a donation to the EE Arts Club for
sponsoring Movie Night.
Monsoon Margaritas
Don't miss this special event at the Ramada on Saturday, July 21, at
4:00 pm. Free margaritas and snacks brought to you by Ken and Kay
Miller & Tom and Melodye Cooke.
Pool Coverage
Tom Cooke will be away for several weeks, and Bruce Liljegren has
agreed to fill in for Tom if any issues come up at the pool. You can
contact Bruce at 829-6690.
Great Fourth Party
An enthusiastic crowd of about 50 people attended the celebration of
July 4th at the Ramada. After a beautiful day with temperatures in the
80s, a quick monsoon rain shower did nothing to dampen their spirits.
July 4th in the 80s--quite a change from the first July 4th event held
at the Ramada when it was 106. A few arriving participants were treated
to a glimpse of Dean Hess skipping and twirling a brightly decorated
umbrella in his own version of "Singing in the Rain." Our spiffy new BBQ
made its debut, and perfomed beautifully with the talented Chef
Lorraine at the helm. Patriotic songs plugged into the sound system
courtesy of Kevin Welsh provided background music. Thanks to our
Hospitality Committee and all who helped make this a delightful
evening.
New Athletic Contest for EE?
Fired up by the music and good food at the July 4th EE celebration,
Lillie Sheehan challenged Kevin Welsh to an arm wrestling
contest. The victorious Lillie attributes her strength to frequent
workouts at a fitness center where she enjoys watching the firemen next
door while waiting for a machine. Kevin claims Lillie winked at him
during the match and caused him to lose his focus. Rematch anyone?
Perhaps EE has a new sport to promote.
Thanks!
To Kevin Welsh for his continuing efforts to fix the problem with the
Wi-Fi at the Ramada. Although the job has proven to be frustrating at
times, Kevin has persisted and hopes to have it working this week. Just
in case lightning strikes again, EE residents should note that free
Wi-Fi internet service is available at Las Campanas Rec Center, Joyner
Library, McDonald's at Continental, the Starbucks in both Safeways and
at Posada Java.
Malware
If you are reading this memo after Sunday, 9:01 p.m. Arizona time, you
obviously didn't lose your Internet connectivity as a result of the
well-publicized malware event. Anyone who did experience a problem needs
to contact their Internet service provide for help. Thanks to Craig
for sending the reminder email on Saturday. From the numerous responses
he received, it appears many in EE checked their computers and happily
got the "green screen."
Beat the Heat in the Pool
EE aqua exercise is still going strong this summer. The morning group
meets at 8 am to beat the heat and draws 6-10 workout-ready EE residents
every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Looking for a way to work out
without wearing out? Why not join them? There's always room for more in
the EE pool.
Prefer a more therapeutic water temperature in the 90's? Check in at the
pool at 3 pm to see who shows up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kris Bean is
taking a break from the leader role, but the regulars know the routine
well and will get you moving.
Restroom Report
The new restrooms are not quite ready for "occupancy," but progress
continues. Just a few minor additions and a couple of inspections and
the grand opening will be scheduled. Perhaps a parade of golf carts
pulling their favorite version of an outhouse and the cutting of a
toilet paper ribbon at the doors. We'll keep working on the celebration
details.
Bee Attacks
The Green Valley News has reported a bee attack in which an 82
year old man was stung between 60 & 100 times. Here are the basics of
what to do if you are unfortunate enough to find yourself under attack:
* RUN to shelter in a house, car or other enclosed area.
* Cover your head with whatever you have available to to prevent facial
stings.
* Don't jump into a swimming pool. Bees will attack again when you
surface.
* Do not swat at the bees.
* Do not try to pull stingers out with fingers or tweezers. Scape them
out with a fingernail, credit card or other straight edged object.
* Seek immediate medical attention if you have more than 10-12 stings,
are feeling ill, or believe you may be allergic to bee venom.
Weather
Some of you who are away for the summer have told us you like to hear
about how the weather is in EE. So far it's been clouding up most
afternoons, and there has been thunder and lightening but little rain.
One resident reports a total of 3/10's of an inch in his rain gauge for
three days of rain. Let's hope for more.
