Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

July 19

Good Morning:

Last Tuesday, July 13th, the final new lamp head,  the 331st, was installed in Esperanza Estates, thus completing the program. The task was made easier by the several volunteers who stepped up to the plate and helped out. As known to the editor, they are: Boyd and Linda Morse, Bruce Liljegren, Jerry and Dolores McCall, Richard Magnuson, Gary Chelseth, and Joe McCalpin. A few homeowners also helped out by installing their own.

The new heads, each of which was installed with a new CFL bulb in the socket, have given our streets a uniform appearance with a much improved ambiance, replacing the mishmash of old and varied heads that previously existed. As each head was replaced, the new one was tested to assure it was functioning correctly. A few weak or non-functioning sensors were found and the owners are being notified of the need for a change. One solar light remains to be dealt with, and one other pole was found to have no electricity and will need repair.

This replacement program was originally contemplated to begin this fall, but there didn’t appear to be any reason to wait, as we had both the new heads and the help available.

The removed heads have been placed in or near the courtyard of each home, and the owners may make such disposition of the same as desired. Most of them are trash. The HOA does have some extras of the new lamp head, which will be held for future use as needed within Esperanza Estates.

A photo of volunteers Jerry and Dolores McCall, installing the 331st and last new lamp head on Nueva, now appears on the website in the lower-left corner of the home page.

The flag pole halyard broke at Esperanza (Flag) Park, causing the Arizona flag to blow into a nearby palm tree and the American flag to come loose at its bottom grommet and become stuck at the top pulley. An attempt is underway to get our local fire department to help out by removing the US flag and helping to install a new halyard, by use of their ladder truck. Unfortunately both of our 'flag guys' are gone for the summer, so we are trying to work through this with inexperienced personnel. Stay tuned.

Our always busy Enhancement Team is contemplating fall projects, and seeking ideas. If you have something you would like to suggest for their consideration, contact Barb McCalpin at 867-8067.

Have a good week. No rain to speak of yet. Keep your fingers crossed that the oil in the Gulf has stopped its flow permanently.
