Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

July 12

Good Morning:

The food donated for the Food Bank at the July 4th party amounted to 78 pounds. Donations during the summer are very much appreciated by the Food Bank. Thanks again to all who donated for all of your efforts to help those in our community in need.

The lamp head replacement program is moving ahead with vigor. Vereda Calma, Napa, Portillo, Holgado, and Regalo are all complete. In the upper part of the subdivision, Excelso, del Norte and del Sur are finished. Ensalmo has had a start. The only street on which little progress has been made so far is Nueva, and work will begin shortly on its 48 street lights. We have had some really excellent volunteer work done by a number of EE residents who have wanted to help, and their help has made the task go much faster and has been much appreciated. Nearly 300 new lamp heads have now been installed. They look great and are a big improvement over what we had before. When the work is finally finished, a party will be held in the honor of all who helped out on this big project. Stay tuned.

Along with the new lamp head, the Board is installing a new CFL bulb which puts out 60 watts of illumination but uses only 13 watts of electricity. The Board asks that these new light bulbs NOT be changed for another type of bulb. Lighting uniformity is being sought for our neighborhoods, and that concept becomes impossible when the new light bulb is changed for another. This has already occurred in more than one instance and we ask that you kindly don’t do this! If you have already done so, please restore the light supplied with the new lamp head.

Speaking of the street lights, the changing of the fixture and the bulbs makes this a good time to see how they are working as well. The sensors which turn the lights on and off are light-activated, and over time, become weak and begin to act erratically. Sometimes the light stays on all day and all night, or stays on well after daybreak. If this is the case with your light, this might be a good time to change the sensor. The cost is about $12 plus a small installation fee. A few lights use a slightly different type of sensor, for which the cost is slightly less. The sensors are not difficult to change, but if you would prefer to have it done by another, we have several handymen in EE who are capable and experienced in this regard. Call 399-0455 to be put in touch with one, or for more information.

Here is a message from Sandy Reed of the tennis group:

TENNIS ANYONE?

Esperanza's own mixed tennis group meets at our court every Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 (in the summer) for an hour or so of.... somewhat slow play. And no one gets too excited about the score. But most of all we enjoy Fridays when, after our games, hosts from a rotating list serve mimosa cocktails (champagne and orange juice) and then the group goes out for breakfast at one of the many restaurant options around Green Valley. In fact, many alums of the group show up on Fridays just for the socializing.

Some players in this 30 year old enterprise are retiring, and the group needs new blood. Hopefully, our new residents or players tiring of the faster play at GVR, will investigate. Age or lack of experience are not deterrents. We have players in their late eighties.

Pretty quiet around the subdivision this week. The monsoon has not yet arrived.

Have a good week.
