Monday Morning Memo

June 24, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Eight Great Years!
That's how long we've had a Monday Morning Memo in Esperanza Estates. If you enjoy reading about the weekly EE news, be sure to thank Bruce Liljegren who came up with the idea in June 2005.

Cool Party for Hot Weather
Over 50 residents enjoyed a fun time at the Margarita Night party last Wednesday. Thanks again to the Cookes and Millers for sponsoring this event.

Big Birthday Bash
The Hospitality Committee's annual Independence Day party will take place on Thursday, July 4th, at 4:30 at the Ramada. They'll be grilling up sausages and peppers and serving potato salad, baked beans and beverages. The cost for the meal is $6. The fun is free.

Photos Wanted
If you read the June Periodico, you know we are discontinuing our Photo of the Month contest after running it for three years. But we still want your photos. Each month we will ask for photos on a particular topic, and publish many of the ones we receive.
The theme for the September issue is EE After Dark. We'd like some nice shots taken in the evening -- animals, sky, plants, etc -- so here's a chance to be creative and have some fun. The deadline is September 13, but you can send them as early as you would like. Please email them to droessle@mac.com or drop them off at 801 Circulo Napa.
Are you traveling this summer? Share your vacation photos. Bring the Periodico with you and include it in the photo. If you forget to pack it when you leave, you can print out the first page at your destination or pull it up on your phone or tablet and hold it up. Copies of the Periodico are always handy on our website at esperanzaestates.net.

Dick Rose Makes History at USS Midway
Last week EE resident Dick Rose, a member of the original (August 1945) crew of the USS Midway, revisited the ship, anchored in San Diego harbor. Treated to a VIP tour, Dick donated memorabilia to the museum. Look for a Periodico article in the Fall with more about his trip.

Bubbling is Back
Tom Cooke installed a new water timer on the Sunset Park fountain, restoring it to operable status once again. It now bubbles happily way 24/7, and our bird and bird-watcher population loves it.

Last Palm Tree Reminder
Sunday, June 30, is palm tree trimming deadline. If you've put up with a tall, bearded palm til now, you have a week to have those dried up fronds removed. These beautiful trees are lightning attractors and the dried vegetation burns rapidly in the event of a strike. After the deadline the HOA will have them trimmed for you and add a 50% surcharge to the cost.

Next Movie on July 3
The movies will be back on Wednesday, July 3 with 'Good Day to Die Hard' starring Bruce Willis.

No Quorum
The June board meeting last Monday was cancelled due to lack of a quorum. The next regular meeting is scheduled for September 16.

Correction to Post Office Phone NumberI
The phone number to contact the GV post office that we reported in the June 13 was incorrect. If you have been trying to call them, try (520) 625-4221.

Community Food Bank
Esperanza residents are generous contributors to the Community Food Bank. Although there are fewer social events at the Ramada during the summer, there is always a container there for donations. Please make a contribution if you can.

GV Community Directory Cover Contest
GVC has announced the theme for the 2014 cover contest: "Our Valley's Sunrises and Sunsets." Artists of all media are encouraged to enter. The deadline is October 14.
