EE Hikers Head for the Hills
EE Hikers are heading for the hills again today. The cool and shade of
Madera Canyon beckon once more. Concetta Deodati plans to lead the
faithful either to Roger's Rock via the Super Trail or up the Nature
Trail. Whichever route they choose, the hikers meet at the EE Ramada
today at 8 a.m. and plan to return by 1 pm. If you plan to join them,
pack plenty of water.
Next week??? There'll be another trail to hike.
Thinking of hiking with the EE Hikers? E-mail Kris Bean at
delainekristin@hotmail.com
to be added to the e-mail list or call Concetta at 648-7009 for more
specifics.
Art Club Meets Today
Today at 2 p.m. the EE Arts Club meets in the Ramada. Interested in
sharing your talent and passion for artistic expresssion or searching
for your inner artist? Stop by the meeting and learn what's being
planned for group projects to show off the talents of EE residents.
Ideas being developed include mosaic desert creatures, quilting and
fabric art, and miniature "adobe" dwellings perfect for yard
decorations.
Pool Thermometer
Tom Cooke has replaced the defective skimmer thermometer at the pool,
and the new one should show the correct temperature of the pool water.
Cinco de Mayo
Thanks to our dedicated Hospitality Committee for a wonderful Cinco de
Mayo party last Saturday. They worked hard (as always) to make the
Ramada look festive, and their efforts were greatly appreciated. Thanks
also to the attendees who brought a wonderful array of dishes for
everyone to enjoy. A highlight of the evening was the Breaking of the
Pinata. Congratulations to Bruce Moulton for his skill! The
clean-up crew enjoyed a fabulous view of the "supermoon" (the closest
and therefore the biggest and brightest full moon of the year) rising
over the mountains. If you couldn't attend the fiesta, be sure to check
out the photos in the next issue of the Periodico.
How's Your Roof?
Before we know it, monsoon season will be here. Someone reminded me the
other day that now is a good time to check to see if your roof needs a
new coating or repair.
Please Leave the
Light On
Please check your streetlight periodically to make sure the bulb is
still operational. If you are away, please ask your neighbor or house
watcher to check. Not only is having an operational light required by
the CC&Rs, it's appreciated by residents who enjoy walking in the cool
evenings or early mornings. If you need a new bulb, call 399-0455 and
the HOA will replace it for you free of charge.
Congratulations
Tammy and Larry Kempton, owners of Homewatch CareGivers of Green Valley,
received the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce award for New
Business of the Year.
Honor Flight
In case you missed the article in the Sunday Green Valley News,
EE resident Charlie Elliott, a WWII veteran, will be on the Honor
Flight to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Another EE vet, Don Helms,
took a similar journey last fall. (See the October 2011 Periodico.)
Letter Carriers Food
Drive
Reminder that the Letter Carriers Food Drive is this Saturday, May 12.
You can leave food donations in bags next to your mail box or a check in
your mailbox and your carrier will pick them up. Donations are also
accepted at the Food Bank on E. Continental Drive between 11:00 and

Periodico Photo
Contest
The deadline for submitting photos to the Periodico's May Photo of the
Month contest is Friday, May 18. You can email your submission to
droessle@mac.com or deliver it on
a CD to 801 Circulo Napa. This will be the last contest of the year. In
June, the Periodico will publish the winning photos from September to
May and will ask residents to vote for the Photo of the Year.
Ice Cream Social
Casa Community Services is sponsoring an ice cream social to benefit the
Senior Lunch Program on Saturday, May 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the
Casa Community Center, 780 Park Centre Ave. on the La Posada Campus.
Enjoy "all you can eat" Blue Bell ice cream and entertainment. Tickets

Backyard Birding
If you'd like to be introduced to the birds that visit your backyard and
the surrounding area, the Florida Station Headquarters of the Santa Rita
Experimental Range is offering a free opportunity on Saturday, May 12.
Local naturalist and lecturer, Jeff Babson of Sky Island Tours, will
give a 10 a.m. talk about migrating birds and permanent residents of
Florida Station--just a 20 minute drive from EE. Find out what draws
bird watchers from all over the world. You might even catch a glimpse of
a rare bird during the short walk afterwards. Bring binoculars if you
have them. Wear shoes for a short trail walk. Reservations can be made
by contacting
markh@cals.arizona.edu.
