Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, Az.

May 25th

Good Morning:

About 60 people enjoyed the final Hamburger Nite of the season this past Tuesday at the Ramada. These events have been highly successful this past year and we are hopeful they will continue. The Hospitality Committee will be meeting in the future to plan their schedule for the fall season, so watch for announcements. There is one more event on their calendar for the summer, the Fourth of July bash. If you will be in Green Valley, please plan on attending as it is always a good time. Watch for details as we get closer to the function.

At Hamburger Nite, attendees had the opportunity to buy chances on a couple aspects of this year’s monsoon--which the papers report as being early and active. The first is a chance to guess the date the first monsoonal rain amounting to ¼ inch or more occurs. The second is to guess the total rainfall that will occur this monsoon during the period June 15 to September 15. Chances are still available and cost only $1 each. Winners get half of the total amount entered, and the balance goes to Ramada improvements. You can help your HOA and have a little fun doing it. Official Green Valley weather records will be used to determine the winners. Call Melodye at 399-0455, or Sheila, at 399-0501, or just talk to either of them when you see them around EE. They will be glad to help you purchase a chance on these two events, called Monsoon Madness.

Many thanks to Ben Sheffield and Jim Lindberg, who constructed and installed a “bird proof” enclosure for the amplifier and some of the other components of our sound system at Sunset Ramada. There was considerable concern that the birds would have liked to have constructed a nest right on top of this equipment--and probably would have without this handiwork by Ben and Jim.

We also wish to say thanks to Paul Rowland and Emil Ziemer for repair work on the edge tile on our new Ramada counter--which had fallen off and broken.

A third big thanks goes out to Charlie Elliot, who regularly places and maintains American flags on our streetlight posts on upper Circulo Napa. Thanks much Charlie, for this nice and patriotic gesture. Those of us who are beneficiaries appreciate it greatly!

At the Board meeting on May 18, the Board appointed a sub-committee to make a presentation to the GVCCC on the poor condition of our streets, to see what can be accomplished. Since Green Valley is not incorporated, GVCCC acts as a liaison between the HOA’s here and Pima County, and one of its committees deals with street issues.

Sandy Reed, EE Board member and noted local author, is still looking for your love stories. He reports several have been donated to the project, but he is seeking more. If you don’t enjoy writing, call Sandy and he will meet with you, do an interview, and write it for you--subject, of course, to your final review. Sandy can be reached at 393-1427, or you can email him at areed56@cox.net Everyone has a love story, be it with a person, a place, a time in your life, an event, a pet, or whatever. It’s fun to share these with others, so please consider joining this project.

Sadly, we have lost two of our large agave “century plants” on Esperanza Blvd. Both sent up “death stalks” a few weeks back, signifying their demise. They were two old and beautiful examples of this type of cactus.

Watch for the May Periodico, which should be out this week.

Have a good week. How about that half inch plus of soaking rain last Wednesday?
