Our Hospitality
Committee will
be sponsoring a Memorial Day potluck at the Ramada, to
begin at 4:30 on May 30. That is only a week away, so it
is time to start thinking about this event.
Please bring a dish to share, and all else will be
provided by the Committee. This includes table service,
adult beverages of certain varieties (bring your own
hard stuff), and all else necessary for a good time.
This will be the last social bash before the Fourth of
July, so plan on attending. These functions are always
fun for all, so we'll see you there!
The May Periodico
de Esperanza is
available on line. It is a great issue with lots of
color photos, interesting articles, columns,
recommendations, announcements of importance, and much
more. Check it out! Hard copies are available at the
Ramada for those not having computer access.
Our annual palm tree trim has begun. Work started at the
pool last Friday, and will continue until all of our
common area palms have been trimmed. We were able to
begin the work a bit earlier this year because of the
way the palms developed this spring.
The HOA uses Monstrosity
Tree Service to
trim the common area palms. This firm has been used for
the service for the past 3 years, and has performed to
the satisfaction of the Board. All home owners who have
a tall palm are reminded of the REQUIREMENT that all
such trees have to be trimmed annually--before the start
of the monsoons in early July. This is the time to
arrange it--when the trimmers are in the area--as that
is the time the best rates will be available.
Monstrosity's phone number is (520) 625-8733 (mobile No.
230-7131). Questions? Call Stoney
Brown at
648-7235.
Fear that a thief had stolen the food people had put
out for the postal food drive last Saturday turned out
to be just a misunderstanding. The "thief" turned out to
be the husband of the letter carrier who handles that
part of EE. He collected the food in an unmarked van
before his wife delivered the mail, at her request and
because she didnt have enough room in her mail vehicle
to carry it all. So all is well, and all food donated
went to the Food Bank.
Many thanks to Mack
and Pam Pearson, who donated a fine table and
chair set for use at Sunset Ramada.
The following measures dealing with Arizona HOA's have
been enacted by the Arizona State Legislature and signed
into law by the Governor. They become effective July 20,
2011.
HB 2609 - New Law on HOA Meetings
In summary, it states: open committee meetings to the
membership (similar to board meetings)
1. Require boards to allow owners to speak once after
the board has discussed a specific agenda item at an
open board meeting.
2. Permit the board to discuss an owner's appeal of a
violation or fine in closed session, unless the owner
requests that it be considered in an open meeting.
3. Require that the agenda of a board meeting must be
made available to the owners in attendance.
4. Require that minutes of emergency board meetings
(defined as a board meeting to discuss issues and take
action that "cannot be delayed until the next regularly
scheduled meeting) must state the reason for the
emergency and the minutes must be read and approved at
the next regularly scheduled board meeting.
5. Permit the board to meet by means of telephone
conference IF a speakerphone is available in the meeting
room to permit all owners to hear the discussions.
6. Clarify that any gathering of a quorum or more of
board members is a "meeting" and must be open to the
membership regardless of whether the board takes a vote.
Revised Date for Legislative
