EE Board Meeting Scheduled
Our HOA board will have it's regular scheduled meeting on Monday, May 20
at 1 pm in the Ramada.
Plants Will Flourish
Thanks to those who have volunteered to help the Gardeners keep the new
plantings in the common areas watered over the summer. The McCalpins
will water the plantings at the EE Monument, Max Perry is caring
for Palo Verde del Norte, the Amorosos will water the new Palo
Verdes in Mountain View, and Bob Krantz has agreed to water
Mesquite Park for which Ruth Creagh is providing access to her
back patio water line. Pat Sharpe will provide backup watering
for individuals taking time off to travel.
Coffee Klatch
The next monthly free coffee and pastries will take place this
Wednesday morning at 8:30. As activities wind down for the season,
this is a good chance to stay connected.
Movie Mania
This week's movie is 'Jack Reacher' starring Tom Cruise as the
lone-wolf investigator on the hunt for a murderous sniper. Wednesday,
7:00 p.m. at the Ramada. Free popcorn and use of a seat cushion are
included with your donation ($2.00 suggested) to the Arts Club. Please
bring your own beverage.
Book Club
The last meeting of the season will take place this Thursday, at 3:00
at the Ramada. You are welcome to attend even if you haven't gone to
the earlier meetings. The group will discuss Barbara Kingsolver's
Flight Behavior.
The Book Club will resume next fall, but meetings will be held on the
third Tuesday of the month at 2:00, starting October 15. The first book
will be Elsewhere: A Memoir by Richard Russo. Contact Kathy
LaVanway at kathylavanway@gmail.com or Cindy Krantz at krantzcindys@yahoo.com
for a list of the book selections for the entire year.
Found Glasses
Last Friday, Gary Strauss found a pair of glasses on the corner of
Excelso and Holgado. If they are yours, contact Gary at 393-0169.
Were You an EE Resident in 2001?
If so, and especially if you are a pack rat, you may have the document
the Gardeners are seeking. Bill Berdine would like to find a
report called "Landscape Guidelines and Recommendation for Improving
Common Space in Esperanza Estates", which was distributed to
homeowners in April 2001. If you have what he needs, you'll make his
day. Please contact Bill at 344-7301 and save him from spending hours
rummaging through the EE archives.
Where Have All the Pickleball
Players Gone?
Courtmaster Kevin Welsh reports that players have dropped below
"critical mass" for sustaining regular play, and there hasn't been a
foursome all week at 8:00 a.m. So, until fall, there will just be pickup
games. If you play and the nets aren't up, go ahead and put them up.
Kevin will check on Thursday afternoons and take them down if necessary.
Kevin hopes to get the lines repainted this summer and do some other
maintenance.
Palm Tree Trimming Notice From the
Board
This notice is from the Board to all homeowners with tall palm trees
on their property:
"We have had fires in untrimmed palms more than once, and such a fire
poses a serious danger of igniting homes by falling on rooftops.
Trimming these palms is a critical issue due to the fact they are
lightning magnets, and every year in Green Valley there are fires caused
by lightning striking untrimmed palms. If one of these fell on a roof in
here, it could burn out the entire 4 or 5 houses in the row. There is a
real possibility of jeopardy to life and property.
The trimming should not take place until June 1, but absolutely
needs to be done by June 30.
The HOA absolutely requires this to be done as a safety issue, and if
owners refuse, or neglect it, then the HOA will be forced to do it and
will assess the Homeowner at cost plus a 50% surcharge. Your cooperation
in this matter will be appreciated and it is in the best interest of
both you and your neighbors to arrange for the necessary trimming. The
HOA uses the Monstrosity Tree Service because they do a good job at a
competitive price; however, owners can use anyone they please.
You can contact Monstrosity Tree Service at: (520) 230-7131 or (520)
625-TREE. Monstrosity can do the trimming even if owners are not in
residence. They will also generally give owners the same rate they
charge the HOA--a discount from their normal charge--if the work is done
while they are in the neighborhood trimming EE common area trees."
In Memoriam
The family of former EE resident Shirley Dailey would like her friends
in EE to know she passed away peacefully last Wednesday after a long
illness. Shirley and her friend Nancy Schwarzwalder spent 20 happy years
in EE before selling their home on Calle Excelso to Shirley's niece and
her husband (Donna and Mike Gerrard) in 2005 and moving to Mountain View
Retirement Village in Tucson. She will be buried in her home town of
Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
