Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, Az.

May 11

Good Morning:

The pool and spa will be closed today and for most of the week to allow for upgrading work to be done on the cool decking. No one will be allowed inside the enclosure except the workmen. Thank you for your cooperation.

Remember Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada, this Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Come on down and enjoy a cup and a donut, free, of course. We just want your company and to enjoy a few minutes with you. No agenda, no meeting, no ax to grind, just a social time to talk and visit. We’ll see you there!

Another fantastic pot luck on Cinco de Mayo, courtesy of our Hospitality Committee and all of our residents who brought a fantastic array of Mexican delicacies. We had more than 90 people there to enjoy this feast, and it was a fun affair, on a warm but comfortable evening at Sunset Ramada. Many thanks to our Committee and to all of the people who joined us for this always fun event.

Our Committee has one more Hamburger Nite this spring, on May 19, and then the Fourth of July Party. After that things will be pretty quiet until this fall, when the Committee will once again spring back into action and provide us with their usual array of fun events for the fall and winter seasons. Watch this space and the Periodico for the news as to what is coming.

Water Aerobics Class: starting on Monday, May 18, the Water Aerobics class will meet from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Reminder: Postage goes up! First Class - first ounce $0.44. Large envelopes - first ounce $0.88. Postcard $0.28. Effective today

A reminder that Bunco is today, Monday, May11th at 1:00 pm at the Ramada. Please RSVP to Val or Melodye as soon as possible. Also, this is the last Bunco until the fall. If you are leaving for the summer please email Val and let her know.

A set of keys was lost in the pool area approximately May 5. It has attached insignia from a Michigan university. If you happen to have found these, or seen them, please call 648-1641.

The Green Valley Lions Club extends an invitation to our residents that would be interested in hearing a presentation by Major General Don Shepperd, USAF Retired. His subject will be the 'Middle East'.
General Shepperd is a graduate of the Air Force Academy, he was a combat pilot in Viet Nam. After leaving the Air Force he joined the 162nd Air National Guard Unit in Tucson as an instructor pilot. His career took him to other ANG units and positions of command. He retired as Director of the National Guard. He is currently a Military Analyst for CNN. His presentations are very interesting as he has traveled to many of these areas and met many of the Middle East Leaders.
The meeting is at noon on June 11 at the Elk's Club. Lunch is $9.00 and requires reservations and payment at least a week prior to the meeting. If interested contact Mary Beth Wallace (399-0299) for reservations.

Unfortunately, some of the tile edge trim on the new counter at the Ramada fell off and broke last Monday, for reasons unknown. Repair work will be completed shortly.

As predicted, the ice broke on the Santa Cruz this past Wednesday at about one o’clock. For those not familiar with this local bromide, it means the first 100 degree day of the year.

Pickleball will begin at 7:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 9 (or whenever tennis is over) on Wednesdays.

IMPORTANT--PLEASE NOTE: Neighborhood Watch Block Captains/Assistants meeting Saturday June 27 , 9:30 AM at the Ramada. Our guest speaker will be Dick Phillips, the Director of the GV Chapter of Minutemen Civil Defense Corp. Mr. Phillips is a retired law enforcement officer. He will review their mission and how they support the Border Patrol and Pima County Sheriffs Dept. This should be informative and interesting. We will have a BRIEF meeting after his presentation. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Thanks to Chuck Townsend for making the arrangements for our speaker. ALL residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Welcome back, Joe and Barb!

Have a good week. The heat has begun! We hope Mother’s Day was a happy occasion for you and yours.
