Monday Morning Memo

April 6, 2015        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Flag Raising Ceremony
From Jim CopelandCelebrate our flag at noon on Wednesday, April 8th at Esperanza Estates Park.  A new flag pole has been installed, so plan to be there to celebrate the first raising of the flag. Hot dogs, chips and lemonade will be served using the new BBQ and refurbished picnic tables. Bring a chair, as seats will be limited. See you there.

Book Discussion Group
The group will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, to discuss Before You Know Kindness.  New members are always welcome.

Arts Aficionados April Assembly
The EE Arts group meets at the Ramada at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday to wrap up another season's excellent activities. Anyone interested in arts and crafts is invited to join.  Got new ideas!  Bring them. Interested in directing activities? Kevin Welsh is stepping down as president of the group.  You may be just the one to move the Arts in a new direction.

Calligraphers and Others with Good Penmanship
Did your first grade teacher praise your mastery of the Palmer method?  The Arts Club is looking for volunteers to print numbers and plant names on the tile plant markers they are making to identify the plants in our parks.  If you can give them a hand, please contact Stacie Meyer at 520-398-3207 or staciemeyer24@gmail.com.

CPR Classes
Eighteen EE residents attended the CPR classes conducted by the GVFD at the Ramada last week.  Thanks to Vern Wise and Barb McCalpin for organizing the classes and to the GVFD for providing this life-saving instruction.

Coney Night Coming Up
Mark your calendar now for Coney Island Night on April 14th.  Five dollars will get you a Hebrew National All Beef Frank (In an effort not to offend our canine residents, we will refrain from referring to them as hot d**s.), chips, watermelon, a brownie and libations.

Save Some Socializing
If you can't do all your socializing at the Coney Island event on Tuesday, you can catch up with friends and bid a fond farewell to those who leave this month at Coffee & Donuts on Wednesday, April 15th at 9:00 a.m.  Thanks to the Cookes and Millers for sponsoring this monthly event.

Golfers Wanted
Joe McCalpin is looking for a few good golfers to fill out EE scramble teams at Desert Hills Golf Club for
9am Monday, April 20th. Hey, even if you're not so good, they'll be glad to have your company and your $65. Give Joe a call if you're interested.

AED In
Our new defibrillator is all set to go if it's ever needed, which we hope it won't be.  It's located on the wall in the pool area. Thanks to Greg Gramstad for installing the unit and to Craig Surprise who connected it up.  Del Bean has volunteered to do periodic checks on the AED to make sure it's in good working order. There will be a "show and tell" of this life-saving device at the Coffee & Donuts next Wednesday morning.

...and a Belated Thanks to Mary Beth
Oops!! Forgot to thank Mary Beth Wallace for her part in the Volunteer Celebration.  Not only was she stunning in her purple scarf dress and matching earrings, she bought supplies and worked her manicure to the quick cleaning the counters prior to the event.  Thanks MBW.
