What's A Stravenue?
The comment in last week's MMM about Cherrybelle Stravenue led us to the following piece of trivia: a "stravenue" (combination of "avenue" and "street") is a type of road said to be unique to Tucson (or at least to Arizona). In Tucson, streets run east and west and avenues run north and south. A stravenue runs diagonally between and intersects a street and an avenue. In a few areas of Tucson, primarily around the central part of the city, which is divided by railroad tracks running diagonally from southeast to northwest, builders created small subdivisions of roads and houses that also are laid out on a diagonal basis rather than the typical east-west or north-south. The word stravenue is said to be originally coined by Roy Drachman when he was developing the subdivision called Pueblo Gardens, in the 1950s or 1960s.

Coffee Klatch
Over 40 homeowners gathered at the Ramada for the monthly free coffee and donuts sponsored by the Cookes and the Millers. Richard Brosmore, Colleen Simonsen and Terry Shay were the lucky door prize winners.

Rules Reminder
Thinking of sprucing up the outside of your home? Be sure not to miss the Board's article in the April issue of the Periodico about the need for board approval before you make architectural changes, including painting or landscaping changes that involve structural additions. If you live in a quad, you'll be particularly interested in the special rules for the land outside your walls.

Cool Pool News
The pool closure during high winds may have some residents scratching their heads. What does wind have to do with the pool availability? Recreation Guru, Tom Cooke, relates that due to the combination of cool temperatures and high winds, the EE pool water temperature dipped to 70 degrees last Monday--a far cry from the 83+ degrees that water lovers are accustomed to here. Concerns about debris clogging the filters also contributed to the decision to close the pool.

Plant Donation
Thanks to Frances Anderson for donating many cactus and succulents to our common areas. Gardeners Bill Berdine, Dick Carver, Al Prato, Stacie Meyer and Cynthia Surprise removed them and replanted them in Palo Verde del Norte and Mountain View Parks.

New Control Improves Pool Operation
Many thanks to Craig Surprise for installing an automatable control on our swimming pool refill spigot. This time of year the rate of evaporation in the pool is high, and it is important to keep the water at the correct level. This device will help us to do that, and at the same time avoid overfill--which has been a problem in the past.

End of Afternoon Aquacise
Morning Aqua Exercise will start your day off with a refreshing and invigorating routine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 am. By now the White Winged Doves should be rousing you in plenty of time to make it to the pool. Afternoon Aquacise will return in the fall.

Take Us with You
Going on vacation this summer? Take a copy of the EE Periodico with you and send us a photo of you holding it in your vacation spot. We'll publish the photos in the September issue. Yes, we know this is copying what the Green Valley News is doing, but I don't think they'll mind.

Why EE Is a Great Place to Live
EE resident Nancy Moore's letter to the editor in the April 21 GV News documents one of the many examples of neighbors helping neighbors here in our little community.

GVC News
The next Green Valley Town Hall Meeting will take place on May 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Desert Hills Social Center. The meeting is hosted by Supervisor Ray Carroll and includes an appearance by county Administrator Chuck Huckelberry. Both will talk about the county budget process in the works for 2013-2014.
