Last EE Hike Today
EE Hikers meet at the Ramada today at 8 a.m. for the last hike of the season.  The trail through the Cactus Forest in the East Saguaro will be an easy 4 mile hike with 200 ft. of elevation. Carfare is $5 for this one. Fearless Leader Marian Mundale promises to enliven the hike with a narration of her first encounter with a rattler--last week on the Hope Camp trail!
Bienvenidos Reception
Reminder to new EE residents that the Bienvenidos Reception for newcomers will take place on Wednesday, April 4, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Ramada.
Burger Night
The last Burger Night of the season will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at the Ramada. The social hour starts at 4:30, and grilling begins at 5:00.  Hamburgers, cheeseburgers or veggie-burgers, served with chips, a pickle and a drink for the nominal sum of only $6.00.  Thanks to our hard-working Hospitality Committee for sponsoring these and a lot of other events.
Please remember the bin for the Food Bank when you come to events at the Ramada.  Contributions during April will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation.
EE Public Art Club
The first meeting of the EE Public Art Club was held last Wednesday, and 19 residents interested in creating public art for our neighborhood attended.  Many exciting ideas were suggested.  The club's first two projects will be the creation of a ceramic tortoise and a pueblo village to be located along the trail near Vereda Calma.  Anyone interested in joining the club can attend the next meeting on April 29 at 2:00 at the Ramada.  For further information, contact the club's leader, Kevin Welsh, at 231-838-6851.
Gardeners Meeting
The next meeting of the Gardeners will take place on Thursday, April 5, at 1:30 at the Ramada.  Anyone interested in joining the group is welcome to attend.
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
Over 100 volunteers and their partners attended the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner held in their honor Sunday evening. The dinner was a lovely catered affair, so all the volunteers could relax and enjoy the evening.  Thanks to all the volunteers who are willing to give their time and talent to make our community a joyful place to live.  Thanks also to the people who organized the dinner.
Volunteer of the Year
It came as no surprise that Tom Cooke was voted Volunteer of the Year.  Tom has served on the EE Board of Directors in several capacities since 2001. He was HOA President for 5 1/2 years, served as head of common area maintenance and our recreational facilities and has done numerous other things to benefit our community.  Tom's name has been engraved on the Volunteer of the Year plaque, which is on permanent display in the Ramada.  Congratulations, Tom, and thank you for all you do for EE.  This is a well-deserved honor.
Esperanza Park Fire Pit
Eight gallons of water have been placed in the wooden storage chest at Esperanza Park for use in dousing any remaining embers in the fire pit. Appropriate warnings in English and Spanish have been placed on the top of the chest that the water is non potable and not to be used for drinking or pets.
Are You Leaving?
Before you leave EE for the season, please be sure your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain has up to date information on how to contact you in an emergency.   The SAV recommended checklist for closing up your house is included in the March issue of the Periodico.
Snakes
Snake season has started early this year as a result of warmer weather.  Recommended advice: watch where you put your hands and feet, be aware that rattlesnakes don't always rattle before striking, and back up and move away if you come across one.  If you are bitten, go to a medical facility immediately.  Call the fire department's non-emergency number, 625-9200, for snake removal from your home or yard.
Landscape Maintenance Service
As announced in a special notice to EE homeowners from the HOA last week, arrangements have been made with a local landscape maintenance company to provide yard care at a level guaranteed to keep your property in compliance with HOA requirements, at a nominal cost of only $30.00 per month. To make this program work, the HOA needs as many people as possible to sign up. To sign up or if you have questions, contact Boyd Morse at 419-2489 or boydmorse1@gmail.com.
Morning Aqua Exercise Postponed
Anxious for that morning start-up with aqua exercise?  Hang in there.  Judy Lang and Terry Jackson will hold off for a few more weeks.  They're waiting for water temperatures that are just a bit warmer.  Watch the Monday Morning memo for the announcement.
Cigarette Butts
Some EE residents have expressed concerns about finding cigarette butts tossed onto their property.  If you smoke while walking the neighborhood, you might try carrying a small container with you to collect the ground out remnants and leave no trace behind for others to pick up.
