EE HOA, Green Valley, AZ
Monday Morning Memo

April 15, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Board Meeting Today
The monthly HOA Board meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. today at the Ramada. The agenda is included at the end of this memo. All residents are encouraged to attend to learn the latest happenings in our subdivision.

Still Time to File Federal Income Tax Forms
Today, Monday, April 15th is your very last day to mail or e-mail those U.S. Income Tax forms. Still using paper forms? The Green Valley post office at 50 E. Continental Road is open until 5 pm on weekdays. Burning the midnight oil? You'll have to drive to 1501 S Cherrybelle Stravenue (Yes, that's what it says. Pretty odd address, if you ask me.) in Tucson to mail them until 11:59 pm.

Wednesday Coffee Klatch
The monthly free coffee and donuts will be held at the Ramada this Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. This may be your last chance to bid farewell to our winter residents before they take off to more challenging climates. This week, you'll have two chances to win a spectacular door prize.

Community Food Bank
EE residents have always been generous in donating to the local Food Bank. If you are emptying out your pantry as you prepare to leave for the season, please considering leaving your items in the food bank bin in the Ramada. Although there are fewer Ramada events over the summer, the container is always there, and donations any time are appreciated. The Food Bank sent an acknowledgement to EE for a donation of 65 pounds of food donated at Burger Night last week. Thanks to Don and Pam Bjorkman for picking up our collected items and delivering them to the Food Bank.

Book Club
While some activities are winding down for the season, reading is still going strong. The EE Book Club will hold its next meeting on Thursday at 3:00 at the Ramada. The Invisible Thread is this month's discussion book. If you are interested in joining, contact Kathy LaVanway at 777-5574 or Cindy Krantz at 203-8292.

Wind Blows EE Hikers Off Course
Last Monday's wild winds blew the EE Hikers' Potluck east a bit, but didn't dampen their spirits. Finding an indoor venue, they planned for next season's excursions. Both Flat-lander hikes (shorter distances and with little elevation gain) and Over-the-hill Gang hikes will be on the agenda, with some hikes moving to Tuesday. Many thanks to Fearless Leader Marian Mundale for keeping this group on track--well, somewhere in the vicinity of the track, anyway. EE Hikers look forward to more adventures next season.

Some Assembly Required
Thanks to Bill Berdine and Paul LaVanway for assembling the red trailer volunteers will use to haul water to the new plantings in our parks. Being "real men," Bill and Paul of course didn't read the instructions.

They're Rockin' the Days Away
Al Prato and Dick Carver loaded and moved two "Gator" loads of excess rip-rap rock from the Ensalmo cul-de-sac to Palo Verde Park last week. The rock will be used to raise the height of planting beds and further protect landscaping in the park. Incorporating their rock-moving service into a full time business will be postponed until next season...or maybe the next...or not at all.

Congratulations
EE resident (& former Periodico editor) Arleen Boyuls is one of the winners of the 2013 Our Champions sponsored by the Green Valley News. You'll be able to read more about Arleen's good works in the Wednesday newspaper.
Another winner, Tom Milke, has a connection to EE although not a resident. He is the gentleman to whom Ellie Franz gives our soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

Big Bertha
Did the spectacular blooms on the Trichocereus Grandiflorus (also known as Big Bertha) pictured in the photo in the Sunday GV News look familiar?  Robin Dewan captured a perfect moment of Tom and Valerie Palacios' gorgeous cactus.

State of the Aquifer
GVC will sponsor the next State of Our Aquifer forum on April 18th at 1:30 at GVR West Social Center, 1111 Via Arco Iris. This forum is open to the public at no charge.
