Beware Of Pranksters Today
Today is April 1, the traditional light-hearted day of practical jokes,
so beware in case it releases the inner child in your friends. The
origin of this holiday is uncertain, but one of the most famous media
hoaxes was perpetrated on April 1, 1957 by the BBC, which reported on
its news program Panorama that Switzerland was experiencing a
bumper spaghetti harvest that year thanks to favorable weather and the
elimination of the dreaded "spaghetti weevil." Staged video footage
showing happy peasants plucking strands of pasta from tall trees was so
convincing that many viewers actually called the network to ask how they
could grow their own. They were told that many people had achieved good
results from planting a strand of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce.
Water Aerobics
The morning Water Aerobics Group will resume on Wednesday, April 3,
8:00-9:00 am (weather permitting) and continue each Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday. Everyone is welcome.
Afternoon Water Aerobics continues from 3-4 pm on Tuesday
and Thursday.
Gardeners to Take Field Trip--Meeting Follows
Mary Kidnocker will give the EE Gardeners a personalized/educational
tour of the Green Valley Arid Garden on Thursday, April 4 at 11:00.
Meet at the Ramada at 10:30 to car pool. A Gardener's meeting to discuss
summer watering plans and possible planting of spaghetti trees will
follow at the Ramada.
The Envelope Please...
The winner of EE's Volunteer of the Year Award will be announced
Saturday night at the volunteer dinner. If you've misplaced your
invitation, the social hour starts at 4:30 pm with dinner at 5:30 pm.
Please consider bringing at least one item to donate to the Community
Food Bank.
Summer Pool Hours
Monday, April 1, the EE pool will go to its summer schedule--opening
at 6 am and closing at 9 pm. The pool has been a popular place
during the month of March with as many as 50 people signing in on a
single day. Thanks to Tom Cooke for keeping the pool and spa in
tip top shape, and thanks to Judy Lang, Richard Magnuson,
Jim Sourant, Greg Walker, Gary Thompson and Del
and Kris Bean for opening and closing the pool and performing
required chemical checks.
Lost But Not Found
EE renter Joann Cogley misplaced a disposable digital
camera--loaded with memorable photos. If you found such a camera, please
call her at 641-990-0916.
Great Grilling on the Agenda
It's back....Hamburger Night will save us all from kitchen drudgery
again on Tuesday, April 9. So mark your calendar now and toss
those leftovers down the disposal.
Fiber Arts Group
The Fiber Arts Group has ended their sessions for the season, but they
hope to resume in October. Keep being creative over the summer, and
report on your projects in the fall. Donna Shay is thinking of
doing a spin-off group on home decor, based on the same color and design
concepts as the fiber arts group.
Moving, Moving, Moving...
If you have something heavy (up to 300 lbs.) to move, Enhancement Team
has the answer. Thanks to the generosity of Frances Anderson, you'll be
able to borrow a flat platform dolly with a folding handle. Calll
Barb McCalpin at 867-8067 to reserve it.
