Monday Morning Memo

March 18, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Do You Know the Way to Bog Springs?
Join the EE Hikers this morning as they explore a new trail in Madera Canyon. Meet at the Ramada at 8 am with $2 carfare, water and snacks to climb the 3.8 mile trail wtih 1000 feet of elevation gain. Plan on returning in time for lunch. Bring ideas for the March 25th hike, we'll all plan it together.

HOA Board Meets Today
Get the low-down on a lock box at today's 1 pm Board Meeting and see a presentation of the positive changes taking place in EE. Come early to get a Ramada tush cushion. The entire agenda is at the end of this MMM.

Lock-Box and Smoke Alarm Info Following Today's Board
Captain Jeff Mooney of the Green Valley Fire Department will present information on Lock Boxes and Smoke Alarm battery exchange programs, following the EE Board Meeting today. Interested in that extra measure of safety? Mary Beth Wallace encourages EE residents and all Block Captains to attend.

Afternoon Aquacize Getting It Together This Week
The regulars at the 3 pm Tuesday and Thursday aqua exercise will be working out their own routine this week. With a dozen regular participants they'll be working up an hour of exercise with a new twist or two. Drop by and join them for a workout that leaves you feeling energized.

Third Time's The Charm?
Mother Nature thwarted the monthly Coffee Klatch in January and February. But the Millers and the Cookes, the event's generous sponsors, are planning another attempt for this Wednesday morning at 8:30. Be sure to grab your ticket on the way in and you may be the winner of a very special door prize this week. If you haven't been to one of these gatherings, you are missing out on a delightful time. Free coffee and pastry and a chance to catch up on the goings on in EE.

Arts Club Meets Wednesday
The EE Art Club meets on Wednesday at 10 am at the Ramada for a discussion of Pueblo Village placement and final plans for the Home and Garden tour.

Fiber Arts Meets Wednesday
The fiber artists will meet at the Ramada on Wednesday at 1:00 for another creative discussion. New members are always welcome.

EE Drive-In Theater
EE bucks the trend of drive-in theaters closing. This week's movie is 'Skyfall', the latest James Bond 007 film. It will be shown in the Shay's driveway at 1118 Circulo del Sur on Wednesday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m. Show up to EE's drive-in theatre in your golf cart for a bit of nostalgia. A few lawn chairs will be available for those without golf carts (or mini vehicles). Popcorn will be served and the Shays invite you to belly up to the bar for a root beer float during intermission.
(Residents of the west end of del Sur, please enter and exit del Sur from the end of Calle Excelso during the movie.)

Book Club Meets Thursday
The EE Book Club is set up for their second discusion this Thursday at 3:00 at the Ramada. The selection for March is The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.
Get a jump start on the April selection (An Invisible Thread: The True Story of an 11-Year-Old Panhandler, a Busy Sales Executive, and an Unlikely Meeting with Destiny) by Laura Schroff.  Interested in joining the club? Contact Kathy Lavanway at kathylavanway@gmail.com or Cindy Krantz krantzcindys@yahoo.com.

Spring Cleaning with a Power Washer
When you see a cloud of mist rising from the Ramada on Friday, you'll know that the Enhancement Team is on the move again. Chairs, tables, and the floor of our party patio will shine once again, thanks to the hard work of the team. No, they don't do cars, but they'll welcome anyone who stops by with a bucket and a brush.

Home & Garden Tour Information
The tour of 10 EE homes and gardens is next Sunday, March 24 from 1:00 to 3:00, followed by a wine and cheese party at the Ramada. The brochure, designed by talented EE artist Kraylen Miholer, is also your ticket which you must bring with you on the tour. Look down in the right hand corner of the cover to find the number of the house where you will start your tour. The map showing home numbers is inside. Please start with the number on the cover and visit the homes in sequence. This will help avoid overcrowding in any one home. If you purchased tickets for non-resident guests, you must accompany them on the tour.
After the tour the Gardeners and Arts Club will be selling mosaic pots, ever-blooming, cement flowers and gaily painted decorator fish to adorn your home or garden. This will also be your last chance to purchase a raffle ticket for the decorated birdhouse; the winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the wine and cheese party.

Attention Home & Garden Tour Homeowners
The official EE Home and Garden Tour photographers, award-winning photographer Jim Lindberg and webmaster Craig Surprise, would like to take photos of your homes and gardens. They will be on the pre-tour on Saturday to schedule a photo session for either Saturday after the pre-tour, Sunday morning before the tour, or another convenient time for you. The photo session should take about 30 minutes.

Spiffed Up Gator
Thanks to Bill Pratt, our Gator is purring and ready for it's spring and summer weeding work. Bill, an expert mechanic, went through the Gator and completely tuned it up, lubed it, repaired a lot of small things, made some general improvements, and re-upholstered the seat--all without any charge to the HOA. A man always in search of a project, Bill is now carving signs to label the plants in our parks.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
GVC's HazMat Collection Day will take place next Saturday, March 23, from 8:00 to 12:00 in the parking lot of Valley Presbyterian Church on Camino del Sol. Click here for the list of acceptable items.

Concert In The Park
Warm spring evenings are a perfect time to sit out under the stars and listen to music. On Wednesday, March 27, at 6:30, the Arts Club will present a Roy Orbison concert in Esperanza Estates Park (corner of Calle Holgado and Esperanza Boulevard). Bring your own chair.

No Blarney
Over 70 residents turned out for the St. Patrick's Day Party on Sunday and were treated to a wonderful meal and entertainment. Thanks to our Hospitality Committee for their hard work on this event, to Chef Lorraine for a fabulous meal, and to Patty Adler for her fiddling. We award this event 5 shamrocks.

Weeds Be Gone
Kudos to EE residents for keeping the neighborhood virtually weed free last year. We were all proud of how great we looked. Now it's time to do it again. Please don't let us down. Thanks to our weed spraying team of Tom Cooke and Boyd Morse who will be working throughout the summer to keep our common areas looking good.

Sons Of Orpheus Spring Concert
The Sons of Orpheus Male Choir will hold its annual Spring Concert at the Green Valley Center for Performance and Art (1250 W. Continental Rd.), on Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in advance for $15, and at the door for $18. A cash wine bar will be available. For ticket information and reservations call 520-399-1750.
The performance will include an amazing variety of music from classics to modern, featuring numbers with the sound of the Swingle Singers from the 1960s, a chanted Geographical Fugue, a Symphony of Sorrowful Songs patterned from a holocaust prisoner's etchings on her cell wall, and music from the film Schindler's List.

"Want to come up and see my etchings?"
SAV will hold its Vehicle Glass Etching Event on March 30 from noon to 3:00 at the SAV building next to the Joyner Library. Vehicle glass etching is a tool for deterring auto theft and to help in the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
