Monday Morning Memo-----------------February 4th

Good Morning:

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Walter Stremme on January 29th. Walter and his wife Eileen were very good friends of Esperanza Estates, and donated much to our Association. From cactus, to sculpture, to benches, to fans and lights, they were always there when the HOA needed them. Walter attended HOA meetings religiously, and kept the Board on its toes, but was always lavish with his praise for the Board and all of our volunteers. Walter fought for what he believed in. He was a good friend and a better neighbor, and he will be missed. Our condolences go out to Eileen and Walter’s family.

The Enhancement Team reports near success with their project to purchase sun/wind screens for the ramada. Their fund raising has nearly succeeded in record time. Work on installations of the screens will begin about February 18th, and should be finished shortly thereafter. Fund raising for this program was astonishing. Initially the Team pledged $1000. Then, within a short time another thousand had been pledged by interested residents. Then, the Board was able to help with approximately $1490 which had been received from the sale of memorial bricks for the ramada. These bricks were sold with the idea the proceeds would be used for ramada enhancements, so this expenditure is right on target. This increased the total to almost the Team’s goal of $3600 for the project.

These screens will aid enormously in enhancing the ramada experience. They will enable the westerly setting sun to be blocked entirely, and also the prevailing winds. It is one more example of how the new ramada has become the social center and the focal point for our subdivision. It is also one more example of how our Enhancement Team helps us all. The Enhancement Team wishes to thank everybody who has contributed and supported this worthwhile endeavor. The Team will continue with fundraising to eventually enclose the entire ramada with similar screens. What would we ever do without our Team?

Remember the Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada this Thursday morning at 8 am. This is a freebee, and everyone is welcome to come on down and have a cup and a donut, meet your neighbors and maybe some new ones as well. No charge, no donation jar, nada. Sponsored by some of your friends in EE who want to keep the good feelings and friendships that have developed in our subdivision going. Hope to see you there.

Remember as well the Valentine’s Day dinner, to be held February 12th, sponsored by our Hospitality Committee. This is also a freebee. Menu is ham and side dishes. BYOB. Please RSVP to Sam at 648-5925. Dinner hours are 4:00pm to 6:oopm at the ramada.

Wheel kits have been ordered for the 6 new heaters at the ramada, to enable them to be moved easily without the necessity to remove the propane tanks first.

And time draws closer for the giant garage sale of the Enhancement Team---the group of hard working volunteers that do so much for us. The sale is scheduled for March 8th, and pickups of sale articles will be made until March 1st. If you have something salable that you would like to donate, just call Tess, 635-7353, Bev, 625-7741, or Barb, 867-8067. The sale will also feature baked items, coffee, and other goodies. This is the largest fund-raiser the Team does all year, so please help if you can. If you cant donate something, then be a shopper. There will be many interesting and unique items for sale. All sale proceeds come right back to us in the form of enhancements that make Esperanza Estates an even more attractive, comfortable and great place to live. Just look at all they have done for us over the past year.

The 2008 Expo and Taste of the Valley is tomorrow at the West Center from 10 am to 4 pm. This is a fun event with a lot of free stuff from the many merchants that participate. The cost for the "Taste" aspect is only a buck, and includes a lot of good samples of the local food purveyors. You can actually enjoy a pretty interesting and varied lunch for the dollar you spend. Half of these proceeds go to the local food bank. There is no charge for the "Expo" aspect. The event is sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.

The ad hoc rules committee for the ramada met on January 31st to discuss some basic rules for use of the ramada. Their recommendations will be available shortly.

The GVCCC Directory will be delivered on February 20th. Charl Petry needs some help in getting it delivered. She’s looking for someone with a truck or a van who will go with her that day to the warehouse on Abrego Drive where the Directories will be loaded into their truck or van, and who then would be willing to drive to 12 different stops in Esperanza Estates. At each stop it will take just a few minutes to deliver the Directories to the deliverers. The whole operation will take just a couple of hours. Please call Charl at 648-2541, if you can help. Thanks.

Have a good week and Super Tuesday. Vote if you can. How about those Giants!
