EE HOA, Green Valley, AZ
Monday Morning Memo

Feb. 27, 2012        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Green Valley Community Directory
Volunteers will start delivering the Green Valley Community Directory today.  They are not allowed to leave directories if no one is home.  If you do not receive a directory by March 1, please call Judy Prato at 269-7217 to set a delivery date.
You can recycle out-of-date copies of the directory at the Lions Club's Lewis-Brown Recycle Center, 601 La Canada Dr. (in front of the Joyner Library parking lot), but you must remove the front and back covers before dropping them off.  The recycle facility is open Monday - Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Attention Esperanza Shoppers!
The big shopping event of the year is only a few days away. The Enhancement Team's annual patio and bake sale will take place at the Ramada on Saturday, March 3, starting at 7:00 a.m. Remember that this event is important to EE, as the proceeds go toward enhancements to our neighborhood.
It's still not too late to donate items to the sale, but the cut off date for picking up your items is Wednesday, February 29. The Team is particularly interested in having more jewelry and small collectibles.
To donate items, call Lorna Kitchak (838-0653) or Jackie Rautio (269-7864).  To donate fashion accessories (belts, jewelry, scarves) call Carolyn Acher (625-4326).  If you baked something for the sale, please bring it to the Ramada the morning of the sale (by 7:00 a.m.) or deliver it to Marian Mundale on Friday.

Organizers ask that EE residents, please, refrain from "early bird" bargain hunting.

St. Patrick's Day Dinner
The Hospitality Committee will serve their famous St. Patrick's Day dinner on March 17 at the Ramada.  Tickets cost $12.50 and include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and dessert.  Beer, wine and entertainment will be provided.  Hurry! Tickets will only be on sale March 1 through March 12, and the dinner will not be held unless at least 70 tickets are sold.  Call Scottie Blum at 399-0955 (between 6:00-9:00 p.m. please) to purchase tickets to this gala event.

The March Hamburger Night has been cancelled in favor of the St. Patrick's Day party, and there will be no further Hamburger Nights this season.

Help Shape EE's Future
Do you have a vision for what EE should be like in 5 to 10 years?  If the answer is "yes", consider becoming part of the Board's new Long-Range Planning Committee.  Chaired by Stacie Meyer, this committee will develop a plan for undertaking potential projects to enhance our neighborhood and will focus on setting priorities for spending HOA time, energy and money.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Stacie at 344-7301.

New Paint Policy
At the regular Board meeting last Monday, the Board approved a proposal to allow (but not require) homeowners to paint interior wood walls and ceilings of garages the same color as their house instead of Norfolk Brown. You can contact Architectural Control Committee members Jim Lindberg or Joe McCalpin if you have any questions about this new policy.

EE Gardeners Meeting
The next meeting of the EE Gardeners will be held on Thursday, March 1 at 1:30 at the Ramada.  This is an important meeting as the group will discuss plans for future projects.  New members are welcome.

Periodico Introduces New Feature
Using an index to past issues, it's now easy to find a story the Periodico has published, since September 2010. To find the index, go to the Periodico page on the website (esperanzaestates.net) and click on Periodico Index. You can then look for the article in the appropriate category. Or, use your browser's word search function (just press the <Ctrl>+ 'f' keys to display the search window.) Once you find the article you want, just click on the issue date in the right column and you will be taken directly to the page the article appears on.  (Thanks to Jerry Allen for being our 'beta tester' for this project.)
If you have any problems using the online index, contact the webmaster at ee-webmaster@msn.com.

Nominate a Volunteer of the Year
We are fortunate to have so many residents who volunteer their time and energy to help make EE a special place to live.  Each year the Volunteer Appreciation Committee honors a volunteer who has worked on behalf of EE over a number of years.  If you would like to nominate someone for the award, call Kay Miller (393-1914; please leave a message if there is no answer) by March 2.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner -- Save the Date
The annual party to honor all EE volunteers is scheduled for April 1st at Sunset Ramada.  Invitations will be delivered in the next couple of weeks. This will be a catered party with a fine dinner, at no charge for attendees.

SAV Recommendation
The Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers recommend that if you see any suspicious activity you should call 911 right away. They will dispatch a deputy to investigate. Go with your gut reaction.  If something feels wrong, it probably is. Too often people wait for a day or two before contacting the sheriff because they don't want to bother the sheriff's office if the activity turns out to be something innocent. The sheriff would prefer you to call in a timely manner when they can still take effective action.

Hot Chicks and H.O.G.s
Ten EE "hot chicks" and four H.O.G.s (Hot Old Guys) filled the Esperanza pool last Tuesday to improve their health with aqua exercise.  Want to get fit without stressing your joints?  Drop in to join them on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 PM.

Esperanza Hikers-Not Today

EE Hikers will NOT hike on February 27, but Fearless Leader Marian Mundale promises windmills and spectacular views of the Rincons on the March 5 Hope Camp Hike. Plan for a moderate hike, 600 ft of elevation and a 5.8 mile round trip.

GVC Bylaw Changes
Our Green Valley Council rep., Joe McCalpin, would like feedback from EE homeowners on the proposed changes to the GVC bylaws regarding membership.  You can read Joe's summary of the changes in his GVC Report in the February issue of the Periodico.  Please contact Joe (867-8067) with any questions or comments before March 15.

Weed Spraying Continues
Boyd Morse and Tom Cooke are continuing to spray the common areas with a pre-emergent product called Prodiamine 65 WDG.  They intend to spray all of the HOAs common areas in order to try to prevent weeds from germinating, and ask residents to assist by watering in the areas near their homes to make the product more effective.
With many acres of common areas to keep weed-free, Boyd and Tom have a tough job, and we appreciate their efforts.
The Board reminds all owners that they are responsible for eradicating any weeds growing in their own yards. Failure to do so will result in the Board taking action, at the homeowner's expense.

Board Meeting Minutes
Secretary Joe McCalpin's minutes of the most recent Board meeting are on our website; click here to read minutes. The meeting minutes are very informative and a good way to find out about the important issues the Board is handling.

More Shopping Opportunities
It's a big weekend for shoppers.  In addition to the EE Ramada Sale, the GVR Arts and Crafts Show will be held at the West Social Center on Friday and Saturday from 9-4.

Chef's Dinner
If you previously purchased a ticket to the Chef's Dinner raffle, please contact Scottie Blum (399-0955) for a refund.
