Monday Morning Memo

February 25, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

EEE Hikers Head for the Hills
The Esperanza Estates Exploratory Hikers are heading this morning at 8:00am without Fearless Leader Marian Mundale. A cheeky group of enthusiasts plans to carpool out to find the King's Canyon Trail west of Tucson. Plan on a rocky 7 mile hike with an 1,800 foot elevation gain. Only the brave or foolish should join this hearty band. Bring $4 for carfare, water, snacks, a compass or GPS, a few flares and ropes for rappelling...well, maybe not. Plan on returning after a late lunch in Tucson.

Arts Club to Meet...Probably
The Arts Club has rescheduled it's meeting. If you thought you missed last week's meeting, never fear, you have another chance Wednesday morning at 10 am at the Ramada.

Wednesday Night Movie
Pirate Radio, postponed last week because of the inclement (by Arizona standards) weather, will be shown this week at 6:00 at the Ramada

Ramada Sale Preparation Starts Thursday
The Enhancement Team is looking for a few good men--well, actually a few good backs capable of moving and lifting. Thursday at 9 am tables and chairs will need to be moved at the Ramada. On Friday at 9 am items will be brought from storage to the Ramada. Saturday at 1:30 pm any remaining items will be boxed for donation to the White Elephant and tables and chairs will be returned to their original positions. Any help with these projects will be appreciated. If you can "put your back into" any of these tasks call Bev Brow (625-7741). Or just show up. They'll put you to work.

Shhhhhh...DON'T TELL ANYONE about the Sneak Preview Sale
It's just for EE residents, so keep it under wraps. Enhancement is giving EE residents only a chance for an early bird bargain at the Ramada Sale on Friday, March 1, from 4-5 pm. It's their way of thanking all of you for your donations to the sale. Please enter through the Sunset Garden. Exit and checkout will be at the East end.

Super Sale Saturday
The annual Ramada Sale will be open to the public from 7 am to 1:30 pm. Coffee, tea, cocoa and pastries will be available for purchase at the sale. There's still time to donate items to the cause. Just call Bev Brow (625-7741), Jackie Rautio (269-7864), Lorna Kitchak (838-0653), or Jane Ellingson (625-7782). If you are donating jewelry, scarves, or belts, call Carolyn Acher (625-4326). To donate baked goods, call Marian Mundale (625-2238). The Enhancement Team has used the funds from this project to fund mosaic-tiling of benches, Ramada furniture purchases, landscaping materials, a collection of infant/child items for loan and a host of other projects for the enhancement of EE.

The Ultimate In Going Green
Don your greenest duds, bring your favorite leprechaun, and jig down to the Ramada for the Hospitality Committee's annual St. Patrick's Day Party on Sunday, March 17 at the Ramada, starting at 4:30. The traditional fare of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and dessert is on the menu, and beer, wine and entertainment will be provided. Tickets are $15, and will only be on sale March 1 through March 12. Call Scottie Blum at 399-0955 (between 6:00-9:00 p.m. please) to purchase tickets to this green event.

Board Backs Beige
At it's meeting last Monday, the EE Board voted to allow (but not require) homeowners to paint certain exterior wood areas of their home the approved masonry color of their house (Travertine, Weathered Coral, Navajo White or Baja White) instead of Norfolk Brown. Only areas enclosed by three walls and a ceiling qualify for this new treatment. Of course, you'll need to get approval from Architectural Control before starting any exterior painting project.

Parking Prohibitions Pumped Up
The Board has clarified the recently passed CC&R amendment regarding parking in EE. It's really nothing new. EE residents are expected to park either in their garages or on their driveways without blocking the sidewalk. Temporary, short-term parking on the street is still acceptable during the day. Overnight parking on the street is still NOT OK. Should you need to park on the street for a few days, a temporary authorization from the HOA Board will be required. Parking on the street for longer periods will require a formal written permit which will allow time for needed corrective action to be implemented. This permit is issued in response to a written application. To obtain instructions for submitting a written application Contact Board member Stacie Meyer at 344-7301.  Ignoring this HOA rule could result in a fine.

EE Home & Garden Tour
This year's tour of EE homes and gardens will take place the afternoon of Sunday, March 24. Ten spectacular tour locations have been identified. Don't miss this chance to find decorating and gardening ideas to fit your home. Stop in at the Ramada as you finish up the tour to compare notes over wine and cheese.Tickets are $15 for singles and $25 per pair. Look for them at the Sneak Preview Ramada Sale on March 1 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and at the sale on March 2 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Plan to buy your tickets early, because only about 100 tickets will be sold. The tour is not intended for the general public, and only EE residents may purchase tickets. Thanks go to the Gardener's and Enhancement for arranging this special event.

Fore!
Joe McCalpin
would like to organize another foursome from EE to play in the GVC Golf Tournament on March 11. Contact Joe at 867-8067 if you want to be part of this awesome team.

GV Community Directory
Lovely and charming Judy Prato and husband, Al "Pack Mule" Prato, will start delivering the new GV Community directories late this week. Please leave your gate unlocked for them. If you haven't received a directory by March 8, you can contact Judy at 269-7217 to arrange delivery.

Pothole Patrol
Joe McCalpin
is asking EE residents to join him in the Green Valley Council Pothole Patrol. Pima County has been prodded into repairing previously reported potholes and Joe wants to make sure their list of targets stays up to date. So give him a call at 867-8067 if you've bounced over a potential repair site.

New Pool Cover Installed
Recreation Director and part-time Wizard, Tom Cooke, has found a new, less troublesome cover for our pool. The installation, accomplished during a singe chilly day, took place last Thursday. A new cover for the hot tub will be here soon. Thanks Tom for keeping our recreation facilities in top shape. EE residents appreciate it.

Volunteer Of The Year
The deadline for submitting nominations for Volunteer of the Year is March 1. The award is given annually to a volunteer who has given his or her time and talent to EE over a long period of time. The plaque with the names of past award recipients is displayed on the wall of the Ramada kitchen. To submit a nomination for this year's volunteer,
contact Kay Miller at gvkaybaby@msn.com. Those without email may phone Kay at 393-1914 (if there's no answer, leave a message with your nomination).

Mr. Fixit
Thanks to Greg Gramstad for replacing the broken tile on the Ramada kitchen counter. We won't reveal exactly why it broke, but let's just say it doesn't make a good ice cracker!

Courtmaster Kevin
Pickleball is so hot in EE these days (35 to 50 players each week) that we needed a courtmaster to keep things organized, and Kevin Welsh has volunteered for the job. If you want to be included on the pickleball email list to receive notices, contact Kevin at welsh.kj@gmail.com.

Cushion Collection
Even worse than being in the "hot seat" is being in a "cold seat" at the Ramada. But now relief is at hand. Our thoughtful Enhancement Team "has our backside," and is collecting seat cushions to enhance our sitting experience during Ramada events. If you have a chair cushion in good condition to donate, you can drop it off at the Ramada or contact Barb McCalpin at 867-8067.

Recycle Inkjet Cartridges
There's a drop box at Our Lady of the Valley on La Canada for those little inkjet cartridges. If you enter from the south parking lot, it's about 35 yds. up on the right-hand side in the breezeway. Thanks to Pat Sharpe for this tip.
