Rockin' to the Rock
Concetta "I think it's just around the corner" Deodati
has stepped forward to lead the EE Hikers to Roger's Rock this
morning. The group meets at the Ramada at 8:30 am to head for
the upper reaches of Madera Canyon. They'll start on the Super Trail and
veer off into the brush without hesitation to stand astride the famed
boulder. Bring $2 for carfare, water, a lunch to be consumed upon the
rock and a sense of adventure. Poles are recommended. This hike starts
at 5,400 feet with an accumulated gain of 1,450 feet. The round trip is
approximately 4.5 miles. Hikers will return to the Ramada around 2:30
pm.
Attention EE Newcomers
Reminder that the Bienvenidos Committee's reception for new residents is
today, Monday February 24, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Ramada.
We look forward to meeting you.
Sausage Fest
Follow the aroma of grilled sausage, onions and peppers to the
Hospitality Committee's sausage fest at the Ramada this Wednesday,
starting at 4:00 p.m. We won't be grilling any ordinary sausages --
only the famed sausages made by the Green Valley Optimists Club are good
enough for the discerning palates of our EE sausage lovers. Cost of a
meal and beverage is $6.00. Good company is free.
Countdown to the Ramada Sale
Our big patio and bake sale is here! Unless you are new to EE, or have
been living under a rock, you know all about the great bargains you can
find and how much this sale means to our EE community. The sale to the
public starts at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, and runs
to about noon. But, lucky us, we get first pick at the private EE
residents only sale on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00
p.m.
There is still time to donate items. Call Bev Brow at 625-7741 to
donate general items, Sandi Oster at 625-0039 to donate baked
goods, and Craig Surprise at (617) 599-2204 to donate TVs,
computers and other electronic gadgets (anything with a power cord). If
you have jewelry, scarves, belts or other fashion accessories, call
Carolyn Acher at 625-4326 or 402-440-7773. You can also drop them
off at Carolyn's at 1221 Calle Excelso.
GV Community Directory
Judy and Al Prato will be out and about in the neighborhood this
week delivering the 2014 Green Valley Community Directory to
every house in EE. Please leave your gate unlocked for them since they
aren't allowed to leave the directory outside the gate. If you haven't
received a directory by March 8, you can contact Judy at 269-7217 to
arrange delivery. You can recycle your old directory, with the covers
removed, at the Lions Club Recycle Center next to the Joyner Library
parking lot.
Thanks to the Diggers
A round of applause for the volunteers who toiled in the sun in Mesquite
Park last week so that the water from the monsoon rains won't wipe out
the bridge in the park again. Thanks to Dick Carver, Ken Adler, Wayne
Bower, Stein Simonsen, Hugh Gates and Gary Rautio for their
labor.
It's Show Time!
Weekly movie night at the Ramada will resume next Wednesday, March 5,
and continue until the weather is too hot for comfort. Details on
upcoming movies will be included in next week's memo.
Snip, Snip -- A Little More Off the Top
Dean Hess reports that starting this week Hot Desert will be
trimming back the oleanders in our common areas. Dean has directed the
landscapers to cut the plants back to "wall height," and they will be
trimming some oleanders that were never cut back before. If you have any
questions or concerns, contact Dean directly at
hess325@msn.com.
Thanks from the Enhancement Team
Sandi Oster, Marian Mundale and the entire Enhancement Team
would like to thank everyone who donated those yummy goodies for the
dessert buffet on Valentine's Day. Also a big thank you to
Cyndy Gates for the wonderful door prize, and to Ole and Ron
McLaughlin for the ice water to keep us cool. Events like this make
this little corner of the world so special.
Calling All EE Writers
Have a short story you'd like to publish? The project to create a book
of short stories by EE residents has resumed, and Glenda Martin
is now working with Sandy Reed to compile the stories. If you are
interested in submitting a story, contact Glenda at 393-7809.
Science Class Was Never Like This
Thirty-five EE adventurers spent a very enjoyable day at Kitt
Peak on Saturday making new friends while learning about the national
observatory. Thanks to Eric Ellingson for sharing his
considerable technical knowledge with us. The March adventure will be
announced soon. Thanks also to Cynthia Surprise for coordinating
another EE trip.
