Centennial Celebration
Over 120 EE residents turned out to celebrate the 100th birthday of
Arizona last Tuesday. It was a truly amazing show of community spirit,
and we thank the many, many volunteers who contributed to the success of
this event. Even the weather co-operated. The February issue of the
Periodico (which will be published later this week) will include
in-depth coverage of the celebration.
EE received some great publicity in the form of a front page story in
the Green Valley News on February 15 and a news segment on KVOA News 4
on February 13. If you missed the News 4 story, click here to view it.
(If the Flash video segment does not play correctly, you may need to
update your web browser or install a Flash plug-in.)
HOA Board Meeting Today
The regular monthly Board meeting will take place today, at 1:00 p.m.
at the Ramada. The policy for painting interior garage walls will be
addressed as New Business. All residents are encouraged to attend. An
agenda is attached at the end of this Memo.
Coffee and Donuts
There was a very nice turnout at Coffee and Donuts last Wednesday.
This casual event has proved to be very popular, with folks stopping by
before they go off to other activities for the day. Ann Niemi was the
lucky winner of the door prize -- 3 free car washes at Octopus.
Green Valley Community Directory
The 2012 Green Valley Community Directory will be delivered to your
door by EE volunteers starting on February 27. The volunteers are not
permitted to leave directories if no one is home, so if you haven't
received a copy by March 1, call Judy Prato at 269-7217 to set a
delivery date.
In an effort to economize, the 2012 Directory will not include the
reverse directory, a feature in earlier directories.
Out-of-date copies of the Directory can be recycled by dropping them
off (without the front and back covers) at the Lewis-Brown Recycle
Center at 601 La Canada Dr. (in front of the Joyner Library parking
lot), Mon. - Sat. between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Lions Recycling Open House
The Green Valley Lions Club will hold an open house on Saturday,
February 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lewis-Brown Recycle
Center, 601 La Canada Dr. (in front of the Joyner Library parking lot).
Find out about what they recycle, what they cannot accept, how they
process the material they receive, and their philanthropic endeavors.
Bulk Trash Day
Talking Trash will pick up bulk trash from its customers on Monday,
Feb. 27. Sample items are: furniture, appliances, TVs, electronics,
books, magazines, clothes, manageable size tree trimmings, and cactus in
taped boxes. They won't pick up bricks, rocks or dirt. Call them if you
need assistance with large items.
Reminder about Streetlamps
Remember that the CC&Rs require all streetlamps to be operational at
all times during the night hours. This means you can't turn off the
electricity when you are not here. Also, the Board requires you to use a
60 watt equivalent CFL bulb. The HOA will furnish and install bulbs free
of charge; if you need a new bulb, call 399-0455 or 398-4829.
Not Just for Ladies--Men Benefit, Too
Looking for exercise that does your body good without stressing your
joints? Meet at the EE pool at 3 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a
sixty minute work-out (a brief warm-up, aerobic exercise for heart and
lungs, deep-water moves for back/torso strengthening, and
strength-training for arms). Bring your aqua dumbells/ buoys if you have
them. "Noodles" are available for those without buoys.
New Around EE
Two new blue ceramic planters are now standing sentry duty at the
gateway to EE Park. One was thanks to an anonymous donor. The other was
courtesy of Cha Cha Doneau of Long Real Estate. A small sign will be
placed to acknowledge this donation to the EE Gardeners.
Javalina Attacks Dog
Sarah, well-known companion of Fred and Scottie Blum, was injured last
weekend when she was bitten by a javalina lurking in the bushes outside
the Blum's gate. Sarah is recovering, but this incident serves as a
warning to pet owners to be vigilant when walking their dogs, especially
after dark.
St. Patrick's Day Dinner
The Hospitality Committee will serve a St. Patrick's Day dinner on
March 17 at the Ramada. The cost of a ticket is $12.50, and includes
corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, carrots and dessert. Beer, wine and
musical entertainment will be provided. Tickets will be on sale March 1
thru March 12th from Scottie Blum at 399-0955 (please leave a message).
At least 70 tickets must be sold in order for the dinner to be held.
Annual Patio Sale

March 3. There is still time to donate items for the sale. Please call
Lorna Kitchak (838-0653) or Jackie Rautio (269-7864) to arrange for a
pick up. To donate jewelry, belts or scarves, please call Carolyn Acher
(625-4326). If you can donate baked items (yum!), please call Sandi Oster (625-0039).

EE Hikers--Change in Starting Time
Today's hike is the De Anza trail, a 4 1/2 mile hike with a 50 ft
elevation. Car fare $3.00. We will leave one car at Tubac and go to
Tumacacori to start our hike. At the end of the hike at Tubac, drivers
will retrieve the cars from Tumacacori. Meeting time at the Ramada is
8:30 a.m. changed from 8:00.
Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Mary Beth Wallace will hold a short meeting for Neighborhood Watch
Block Captains immediately after the board meeting this afternoon.
