Monday Morning Memo-----------------February 16th

Good Morning:

The Board will meet today for the regular February meeting, at Sunset Ramada at 1:00. A meeting agenda is attached.

We will hear a presentation from Judi Smith of the GV Fire Corps about their lock box program, which should be of considerable interest to many in EE. This involves affixing a very secure lock box device to your home in the vicinity of the front door which contains a key to the residence. Only the fire department can access the box. Its purpose is to allow emergency responders to access your home in the event you should fall or otherwise become disabled within your residence, so the door doesn’t have to be broken down to get help to you promptly. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting and hear about this program.

Ben Sheffield, who has done considerable preliminary work on the light post problem, will also give a report. This information will be turned over to the ad hoc committee studying this situation for further review.

All work to bring our pool and spa into compliance with the new federal law was completed Wednesday afternoon, and refilling both began. They will reopen today, as the temperatures have reached operational level. The new salt water system has been activated, and use of the pool and spa should be a whole new experience. When both the pool and spa were empty, an inspection showed that both will need to be re-plastered in another year or two. This will be a major expense, and the Board will budget for it. Bids are still being received for needed work on the cool decking, and it is anticipated that a cosmetic job will be performed on it when an acceptable bid is located.

Remember that tomorrow, Tuesday February 17th, is a Hospitality Committee Hamburger Nite at Sunset Ramada, beginning at the usual hour of 4:30. Table service, an excellent hamburger, cheeseburger, or vegi-burger for a nominal price; drinks available, and always a good time. Bring your own alcohol. We’ll see you there!

Free lemons are still available. Call 399-0455.

About 30 people enjoyed free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada last Wednesday morning. Put this on your calendar for the second Wednesday of each month, as it will be continuous in the future.

Another enjoyable interlude was the Valentine’s Day party put on by our Hospitality Committee on February 15 at Sunset Ramada, where coffee and an excellent cheesecake were served to about 30 people. Our thanks, as always, to our Committee for all they do for us.

At the present time a study is being conducted to determine the best course of action for our light poles; however any determination about what is to be done is well into the future. In the meantime, it is the responsibility of each owner to maintain his pole and mailbox and to keep it in good condition and maintained. There is a local firm specializing in painting wrought iron that is available to repaint your post and mailbox if you don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself, or would just prefer it be done to a professional level. That company is Premier Painting, (520) 271-6558. The owner is named Michael Carpenter. He was recently employed by the editor to perform this task, and did a superb job. He is highly recommended. He is careful and conscientious.

Remember the pickleball clinic has been changed from Tuesday and Thursday to Tuesday and Wednesday, beginning Tuesday at 10 and Wednesday at 10:30. General pickleball play is set for Thursday, beginning at 10 am.

The Green Valley Community Directories for 2009 have been received by the GVCCC and will be distributed over the next couple of weeks. Please remember that your old directory can be recycled at the Lion’s Bin at the Government Center (near the library). They ask that the front and back covers be removed before recycling.

The Bunco group is always looking for substitute players, so if interested, call Melodye at 399-0455.

Have a good week. How about this recent rain?
