Green Valley, AZ

February 15

Good Morning:

The Green Valley Community Directory will be delivered to your door this week, on Wed. afternoon (Feb.17th) or sometime on Thursday.  We are not permitted to leave a directory at a gate; so please leave your gate open to receive your copy.

The regular February Board meeting will be held today at Sunset Ramada, beginning 1:00 pm. All residents are invited. An agenda follows this edition of the Memo.

Hamburger Nite appears to have set another record with attendance this past Tuesday. It was very well attended, (well over 100 people!) and the Valentine cake and coffee served by the Hospitality Committee added much to the evening. The collection taken for the food bank was most appreciated as well. Another successful function of our always hospitable Hospitality Committee, for which the rest of us say many thanks!

The results of our drive to help the local Food Bank at the Hamburger Nite are in. The total collected at the event was 152 pounds! Our total for this and past events in EE now total 407 pounds!! Great job by all who contributed, and the Food Bank thanks each of you. These donations are very meaningful by the recipients who need this help. We extend our thanks to Don and Pam Bjorkman, EE residents who act as our liaison with the Bank, for putting out the collection bins and transporting them to the Bank.

One of our winter visitors, Kevin Welsh, who is a pickleball player extraordinaire and all around good guy has been under the weather recently and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Long Realty has a couple of interesting things going on. February 23 they are having a free book exchange. Bring an old book or books to their lobby and exchange them for others, from 10am to 3 pm. They ask that you bring a can of food for the book bank when you participate. Then, on March 16 from 11am to 3 pm they are offering a free “shredding event”. It is a chance to get rid of old unwanted paper clutter and records that you want to have destroyed. They will have a giant, truck mounted shredder there to do the job. They also ask that you bring along a can of food for the food bank for using this service. Long’s address is 275 Continental Road, #101 (between Walgreen‘s and Chase Bank). For further information call 625-5000.

Be planning for the Lunar Party, scheduled for February 28. Watch for details. The plan is to hold this at its traditional location, at Esperanza Park, on Holgado, where we will enjoy a large bonfire, and other amenities as well. Ben and Mona Sheffield have donated a pile of firewood to help out. Stay tuned.

Stoney Brown and Bob Hunton, who put in another weeks work at a place known as “Stoney’s View”, just off Vereda Calma. They cleaned the area and buried some debris that had been there and causing an eyesore for many years.

About 35 people enjoyed Free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada on Wednesday morning. Keep this event in mind for the second Wednesday of each month in the future.

Remember the collection can for snap-tabs that is always on the counter at the Ramada. These go to help those in need of hospital care. There is also a collection can for aluminum cans that are collected to help an Indian school through a church program. Please keep these in mind in doing your recycling.

The Enhancement Team’s spring patio sale, to be held at Sunset Ramada on Saturday, March 6 is now less than a month away. Kitchenware, patio items, home decor and furniture are wanted, and more articles and items are need for the sale. For pick up, call Sandi (625-0039), Bev (625-7741), or Barb (867-8067). Remember, when you help the Team you help yourselves, as all Team proceeds are reinvested right back into EE. In conjunction with the patio sale, the Team will also hold a bake sale, where all sorts of home-made baked goodies will be available for sale. Call any of the Team members mentioned above for further information on this aspect of the sale.
