Fearless Leader Returns from the
Northland
EE Hikers are delighted that Fearless Leader Marian Mundale has
returned from the northland. A short hike is planned for today. Meet at
8:30 am today with $2 for carfare to Madera Canyon. The 3.5 mile
Nature Trail hike from the Amphitheatre Parking Lot to the top parking
lot is estimated to have an elevation gain of 600 feet. Dress warmly.
It's likely to be chilly up there. Boots with good traction and sticks
are a must, as there's a chance of snow on the path.
Enhancement to Meet Today
Members of the Enhancement Group meet today at 1 pm at the home of
Barb McCalpin, 311 Camino Del Portillo. They'll be discussing the EE
Ramada Sale and the Home and Garden Tour--both taking place in March.
Currently they're setting up a collection of infant and toddler items to
be loaned out to residents with young visitors. New members are always
welcome.
Burger Night Brings a Special Treat
This Tuesday night's Burger Night includes a special treat. Along
with the usual burger and chips participants will enjoy a Valentine
cupcake. So bring your sweetie to the Ramada by 4:30 pm and enjoy
drinks, food and great company for only $6 each. Thanks to the
Hospitality bunch for another night with friends.
Fiber Arts Group
Get inspiration and advice for your fiber arts project by joining EE's
talented fiber artists at their regular weekly show and tell meeting on
Wednesday at 1:00 at the Ramada. Contact Donna Shay at
815-243-3402 for more information. After sitting in on their
conversation about experienced fiber artists helping novices salvage
previously-doomed projects, I predict that a thrice-ripped-apart knitted
cap may mysteriously appear at the next meeting--begging for help.
This Week At The EE Cinema
If you expected a love story in honor of Valentine's Day, you were
wrong. But you can still sit in the back of the theater and put your arm
around your date. This week's Wednesday night movie is 'Lawless',
a true-to-life action saga profiling Virginia's bootlegging Bondurant
gang, whose exploits during the Prohibition era made them outlaw heroes.
Starting time is 6:00, admission is a donation to the Arts Club
(suggested minimum of $2).
Mark Your Calendar for the Board
Meeting
The HOA Board meets Monday, February 18 at 1 pm at the Ramada.
Agenda items include: consideration of action to allow patio walls and
ceilings to be painted to match currently approved house colors;
discussion and clarification relative to the enforcement of the recently
approved change to the parking regulations.
Coffee Klatch Resumes
First postponed by the holidays and then by the freezing temperatures,
the morning Coffee Klatch will be back next Wednesday, February 20.
Free coffee and pastry and a chance to win a door prize is a good reason
to jump out of bed on a cold morning and get down to the Ramada by
8:30.
Speed Reader?
You may still have time to read William Landay's book, Defending
Jacob in time for the EE Book Club's meeting on Thursday,
February 21 at 3 pm. Not so fast? Get an early start on Vanessa
Diffenbaugh's Language of the Flowers for the March
meeting.
The Ramada Sale Is Coming
This eagerly awaited annual shopping spectacular is less than a month
away (March 2), and the Enhancement Team still has space for more
items. Help make this year's sale the most successful one in it's long
history. Call Bev Brow (625-7741), Jackie Rautio
(269-7864), Lorna Kitchak (838-0653), Jane Ellingson
(625-7782) or Sandi Oster (625-0039) to donate items to the sale.
Calling All Bakers
Ramada Sale shoppers need nourishment to help them keep shopping. And
nothing provides that better than the great baked goods from our own EE
kitchens. If you can donate some of your goodies, please call Sandi
Oster at (625-0039).
Step Up
That's just what the two Bills (Berdine and Pratt)
did. They stepped up and installed an iron railing next to the steps
across the street from the Ramada monument where the walking trail
begins. Bill Berdine added the steps last year when he noticed that
people using the trail had difficulty walking down the incline. Walking
stones were also added to ease walking in that area. Great work Bills!
An Electrifying Project
Thanks to volunteers Ben Sheffield, Al Prato and Eric
Ellingson who added circuits and outlets in the Ramada kitchen. This
much needed upgrade, funded by the Enhancement Team, will make it
possible to plug in all those crockpots and coffee pots at potlucks
without popping a circuit. Can granite and stainless be far behind?
Mosaic Bench Is In Place
Thanks to Stacie Meyer, the plain bench in front of the EE
Monument has been transformed into a work of art. The bench is now in
it's new location at the top of Mesquite Park on Circulo del Sur. Enjoy
a short rest on this gorgeous bench next time you are walking in the
area.
Home & Garden Tour
EE's biennial tour of beautiful homes will take place on March 24,
and there's still room for another home on the tour. If you know of a
home you think people would be interested in seeing (maybe your own),
contact Jackie Rautio at 269-7864.
Love A Parade?
Join in the planning for a potential EE entry in the October White
Elephant Parade. Contact Cynthia Surprise at
cjsurprise@verizon.net or 857-209-1978.
Help Someone Stay Warm
The EE Arts Club is collecting warm clothing and blankets for the
Crossroads Mission in Nogales, Sonora, which provides meals to families
in need. Please call Donna Shay (815-243-3402) to donate items.
FBI/MoneyPak Ransomware Warning!
From our Webmaster: If your computer display turns white and a message
that includes the words "FBI" and "MoneyPak" appears, your computer has
become infected by a malware program known as "ransomware"--since you'll
be instructed by the message to send $100 (or $200) in order to have the
FBI unlock your computer. Do nothing of the kind! The
message has nothing to do with the FBI (they're not "watching you" as it
claims); what you need to do is call your computer tech support
person to remove the malware.
Laughter Is Cheaper Than Therapy
In need of some good laughs? The Green Valley Branch of the American
Association of University Women presents the AAUW Comedy Night featuring
Tucson's Laff's Comedy Club comedians on February 21, 5:30 p.m.
at the American Legion Hall, 1560 Duval Mine Road. There will be hearty
appetizers, a cash bar, and a bottle raffle. Tickets are $25 ($10 tax
deductible) and can be purchased by calling Lorna Kitchak at 838-0653.
In The News
As we've mentioned here before, EE resident Paul McCreary is
putting together a documentary about the meaning of the Second
Amendment. Dan Shearer discusses the documentary in his editorial in
Sunday's GV News. If you are interested in taking part in the
documentary, you can contact Paul at
stay@mainstreethouseinn.com.
Scam Squad
SAV's Scam Squad will conduct an informal meeting about the rampant
growth of fraud, scams, and suspicious activity that has been affecting
the Green Valley community. The meeting will take place on Wednesday,
February 20, at the East Social Center (Abrego and Esperanza Blvd.)
Light refreshments will be available at 9:15, and the presentation
starts at 9:30.
