Monday Morning Memo-----------------December 31st

Good Morning:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

First Day Celebration at the Ramada--January 1st, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.

The Ramada has been booked for a group barbeque. If you have no other plans, please join us in celebrating the first day of the New Year. Bring your own table setting, something to barbeque, and a dish to share. Depending on the weather, this may a test run for the new patio heaters, so don’t stay away because it might be a cool day.

For additional information and reservations, please call Tess at 625-7353, or Jane at 625-7782.

There were a lot of events held at the ramada over this past year--its first. Our Hospitality Committee held quite a few hamburger nights, holiday parties, and various other get-togethers; there were a number of private gatherings for celebrations, parties and meetings, and the monthly Board meeting was held there 7 times. This is only going to increase in the future, and numerous events are already in the planning stages for 2008.

Probably the "big story" in EE this past year has been the terrific spirit of wanting to improve this facility by donating money, time, and materials for enhancement of the ramada at no expense to the HOA. We owe much to our Enhancement Team and the numerous donors who made this possible, and it demonstrates the community pride we share with this improvement to Esperanza Estates. Further enhancements are already on the drawing board and will be announced shortly. We want this fine facility to be used and enjoyed, and to maximize this the Board will be convening an ad hoc committee (to be chaired by Board member Joe McMahon) to look into recommending some usage rules early in the coming year. These will be as unobtrusive as possible consistent with ordinary prudence, and to assure the HOA is reimbursed for any expenses involved with private use of the facility. If you might have ideas on this, you will be invited to provide them to the committee. Watch for further information on this.

We had plumbers at the pool again to try and locate the sewer line this past week. This was for purposes of trying to locate a cleanout for the line running from the pool rest rooms to the main sewer line in the street. It had become plugged last week and was difficult to clear because a normal cleanout could not be found. The plumbers managed to locate the line using some high-tech equipment, and also determined the line evidently never had a cleanout installed when originally constructed about 30 years ago.

The plumbers also located another obstruction in the line which is sure to cause problems in the future unless removed permanently. To do this a cleanout needs to be installed. They will order the area "blue staked" and when that is completed, will return and install a proper cleanout and remove the remaining obstruction.

Please keep in mind the HOA annual meeting, set for January 21st. You will be receiving a mailing about this soon.

A mailing to every homeowner in EE is a major task, as there are 351 properties in our subdivision. The HOA makes two mailings each year---the annual assessment billing and the annual meeting notification and information. This is all done by volunteers, and involves stuffing a lot of material into a lot of envelopes, along with addressing and stamping the same. This year, Sheila Bennen, Melodye Cooke, Bob Hunton and Norma Stanley, all played major roles in the annual meeting mailing, and Joan Moreaux, the HOA treasurer, handled the mailing of the annual assessment notification single handedly. Board member Robert Frost prepared the mailing labels for both efforts. Our thanks go out to each of them for their help.

There has been a report about a very small child swimming at the pool wearing a diaper. This is strictly prohibited as a serious health issue. No diaper use in the pool is allowed--even with use of the so-called "swim diapers". If you observe this activity, please tell the offending party to leave the pool, or call any Board member.

It has recently been observed that the physical address of our swimming pool is not posted anywhere--although that location does have an address assigned to it as 763 Calle del Ensalmo. Because an emergency vehicle responding to that location would need a physical address, signs are being made up to post the address in a location where it can clearly be seen from the street.

Have a good week and a Happy New Year. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas celebration
