Monday Morning Memo

December 3, 2012        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Hikers on the Anza Trail Today
Sticking to level ground, the EE Hikers will meet at the Ramada at 8 am today to carpool to Tubac. Fearless Leader Marian Mundale will lead the band of merry men and winsome women from Tubac to Tumacacori along the sandy Santa Cruz wash. This is a 4.2 mile level trail with some shade. Bring plenty of water, a few snacks and $3 for carfare.

Holiday Party Friday
The Hospitality Committee will be decking the halls for our Holiday Party this Friday, December 7, at 5:00 pm. Wrap yourself in tinsel and bring your best seasonal dish to the final potluck of 2012. Beverages will be provided.

New Pickleball Play & Work Schedule
The new hours of play are: Tue, Thur, Sat, Sun, 9-11am (all skill levels - recreational); Wed, Sat 1-3pm (advanced skill level - competitive.)
The 'Work Party' continues on Wednesday's from 9 to 11am until the oleander trimming is complete and the lines have been repainted.

Fiber Artists Show And Tell
Anyone interested in Fiber Arts is welcome to join like-minded souls Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Ramada. Knitters, quilters, weavers, spinners, embroiderers, dyers, felters, fabric painter and crocheters (That's all I can think of.) are encouraged to bring examples of their work for sharing and demonstration. Please come and meet fellow stitchers or rekindle old friendships. Bring a few of your creations to help share your love of handiwork.

Movie Night Is Moving
The EE weekly Movie Night sponsored by the Arts Club will now be held on Wednesday nights rather than Sundays or Saturdays. The group hopes the new night will be more convenient for residents and will attract larger crowds. Movies will start at 6:00 p.m.  Heaters will be available and there will be coffee and cookies. On December 5, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows will be shown. In this 2011 film, Holmes and Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty. There will be no movie on December 12; Christmas Cabin will be shown on December 19.

Ban Lamppost Nudity!!
Still haven't decorated that lamppost/mailbox? The Enhancement Elves are offering their services. They'll use your decorations to spruce up your post for a $10 fee. They'll provide decorations for $15. Need an adapter to light up your little corner of EE? Those are an additional $2. They'll be available to decorate until December 15. Phone Jackie Rautio at 269-7864.

Pool Closure Scheduled
Replacement of the cool decking in the pool area has been scheduled beginning January 7, 2013. The pool and spa will be closed for approximately 7 days. 'Cool decking', Tom Cooke tells us, is a special dual-surface coating process which makes the deck cooler to walk on as well as attractive.

The Halls Are Decked
Kudos to the Enhancement Team and a few other volunteers for their efforts to add some holiday sparkle to our monuments and parks. There's a lot of creativity in that group and it really shows. We're seeing a lot more decorated lamp posts too these days, and it's a pleasure to drive around the neighborhood in the evening and take in the sights.
Be sure to check out the magnificent annual display of lights by Terry and Donna Shay on Circulo del Sur. The Shays invite you to drop by and stroll through their lighted, enchanted garden any evening from dusk to 8:00. The glow will guide you to the right house.

Sprucing Up the Courts
Recently, our Court master Kevin Welsh called for a couple of work parties to trim the oleanders surrounding the pickleball court. Guest players, as well as EE residents, showed up to help with the work. The area looks much improved. We thank Kevin and all of the volunteers who have been helping with this effort.

Newcomers Reception
A very enthusiastic group of over 20 new residents attended the Bienvenidos Committee reception for new EE residents last week. The gathering gave them a great chance to meet other newcomers and well as board members and committee chairs. This group is very eager to become involved in EE activities, and we expect them to be very visible in our community.

Sons of Orpheus Concert This Friday at 7pm
Still needing tickets for the CPAC concert? Call 399-1750 for more information.

Calling All Cooks--Recipes Wanted
EE's ever-energetic Enhancement Team is putting together an EE cookbook. Before you refile the recipe for that favorite holiday treat, make a copy of your recipe and drop it off in the manilla envelope marked 'Recipes' at the Ramada. It's stuck up inside the bulletin board behind the counter.

Humming "Jingle Bells"?
Join the fledgling EE Carolers for a neighborhood singing debut. With enough voices in chorus, we'll all sound good. Interested in bringing back those melody memories? E-mail your intent to ee.mondaymorningmemo@gmail.com.

So Many Books, So Little Time
EE Residents have expressed an interest in a neighborhood book club. Kudos to Kathy Lavanway for offering to spearhead the effort. Contact her at kathylavanway@gmail.com if you'd like to participate.

Top Gift For EE Residents
Esperanza license plates are at the top of many EE residents' holiday wish list. Order one today as a gift or for yourself. The cost is $10 per plate, and there are several to choose from. To place an order, contact Bill Berdine at 344-7301 or whberdine@roadrunner.com.

Volunteer Of The Year
Where would EE be without our volunteers? We see evidence of their generosity every day around our little community. Kay Miller, Chair of the Volunteer of the Year Committee, invites residents to nominate candidates for the Volunteer of the Year Award. The candidate should be someone who has dedicated many years of service to EE. Submit your nominees by email to gvkaybaby@msn.com.

New Schedule For Abrego Paving
If you frequently travel down Abrego, you'll want to note that the Pima County DOT decided to delay paving that road until January to minimize disruption during the holiday season. Paving work is expected to start on January 2 and continue into early February.
