Celebrate 2015
EE's annual First Day Potluck will take place at the Ramada on Thursday, January 1, at 1:00 p.m. Please bring a luncheon dish to share, your own beverages and table service. You'll be home in time to cheer on your favorite team.  Thanks to Jane Ellingson for organizing this event.  If you'd like to help out, call Jane at 625-7782.

Tuesday Book Discussion Group
The Tuesday Book Discussion Group will have its first gathering of 2015 on Tuesday, January 6 at 11 a.m.  The book to be discussed is Wonder by R. J. Palacio.  We will meet at the Ramada, weather permitting. Check your email to see if weather will be changing the meeting location.  If you have not been to the group and do not receive their emails, a notice will be posted at the Ramada with the location address.  Hope to see you on the 6th.  Call Cindy Krantz (203-8292) with questions or for more information.  ALL are welcome.

Clamp that Lamp Lid!!
After you've un-decorated that lovely lamppost, double-check that the lid is securely closed.  Stiff winds can blow them off, crack the lid, destroy the hinge, and (the worst) pull the whole darn thing over onto the ground as well.  If the lid can't be immediately replaced, it's wise to cover the top of the lamp to avoid electrical problems and the "pull over" effect.  Tom Cooke tries to have a supply of lids and lamps on hand for EE resident purchase.  Give him a call at 399-0455 if you need to locate a replacement.

Park and Pergola Progress
After almost a year of planning, the shade tree park and pergola are about to become a reality.  The materials for the pergola have been delivered and the trees and shrubs will be delivered and installed in mid-January.  Dick Carver is working on the irrigation system, which will be installed late this week, and Al Prato and Terry Shay are painting the wood components of the pergola (Norfolk Brown, of course). Thanks to all the Gardeners for their hard work to convert this barren area of EE into a pleasant spot.

Keep that Fitness Resolution with Aqua Exercise--Next Week
If getting more exercise is on your list of New Year's Resolutions, you can improve your strength, endurance, cardiovascular health, and balance with aqua exercise.  And you'll do it without joint pain. Join your neighbors in the EE pool from 3-4 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for fun and fitness. Sorry, no class this week, but they'll be moving and improving again next week.

Try Hatha Yoga
Looking for a way to begin the New Year with a healthful activity?  Give Hatha Yoga a try.  A recently certified yoga/Pilates instructor, Valerie Davenport, has agreed to lead a group in GENTLE yoga at the Ramada, and a dozen residents have already signed up.  Participants are asked to donate $5-$6 per class.  (1 hour GVR yoga classes are at least $11 a class.)  It has been suggested that classes be held twice a week either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. Input on days and times from interested participants is requested.  All EE neighbors are invited to join or to just sit in to evaluate their options.  Please email your interest and preferences for days & times to Mary Grgich at marygrgich17@gmail.com or Sharon Rowe at srowe62902@aol.com .

Annual Authors' Showcase Luncheon
Many EE residents have attended this event in the past and loved it.  Sponsored by the local chapter of the Society of Southwestern Authors, the 8th annual Showcase will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 11:30-2:30 p.m., at the Desert Hills Lutheran Church's social hall.  $20 includes a delicious lunch catered by Sweet Pea's of Amado, readings by eight local authors in various genres, and a chance to win door prizes from local restaurants and retailers.  The ticket prices goes up to $24 after Jan. 3rd and advance ticket purchase is required by Jan. 15th.  For more information, entree options and tickets, contact Alice at 625-6405 oralicegvaz@hotmail.com.  Or email Denise Roessle at droessle@mac.com to receive an email reply with a flyer attached.
