May Your Days Be Merry And Bright

Hike Leaders Needed
EE Hikers take a two week hiatus. No hike today and no hike on December 31. Fearless Leader Marian Mundale will be scouting out new hikes for future scheduling.
Marian is also looking for a volunteer relief leader or two. If you've hiked beginning and intermediate trails in the area and would be willing to lead your friends and neighbors in a relaxed hike, please contact Marian at 625-2238 or mm122169@hotmail.com.

No Aquacise on Christmas Day
Feel free to have another Christmas cookie. There'll be no vigorous aerobic workout on the afternoon of the 25th, but on Thursday, December 27th at 3:00pm the Hot Chicks and HOGS (Hot Old Guys) will be huffing and puffing as usual in the EE pool.

Wednesday's Movie
End the year on a light note by watching the 1996 comedy Multiplicity, staring Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell. Show time is 6:00 at the Ramada. Heaters, coffee and cookies will be available. Admission is a donation to the Arts Club ($2.00 suggested).

New Year's Resolutions
Is one of your resolutions for 2013 to get out more and have more fun? Start by attending the annual First Day Potluck lunch at 1:00 p.m. at the Ramada on the first day of 2013. Please bring your own table setup and beverage and a dish to share. Raffle tickets for the Arts Club ceramic birdhouse will be sold at the potluck.

Do Your Dues Duty
EE HOA dues for 2013 are due January 1, 2013. If you've not paid them yet, please sift through that stack of holiday card and flyers, dig out your statement and mail it to Treasurer Joan Moreaux today. There's still time...You're not on Santa's naughty list yet.

Help Gardeners Push Rocks
Unlike the mythological Sisyphus consigned to an eternity of useless effort and unending frustration pushing a bolder up a hill only to have it roll back down, the Gardeners efforts to move rocks from 'Pie II' back to
Palo Verde del Norte Park (previously 'Pie I') on Circulo del Norte will result in the creation of a wonderful stone planting wall. Many hands and strong backs are needed for the project. If you can help them, please meet them at the Ramada on Thursday, January 3 at about 2:00, after the Gardeners meeting. Or go directly to the parks.

Pool Closing Reminder
January 7 will mark the beginning of the week-long closure of the EE pool and spa for replacement of the cool decking.

Annual Meeting Notices and Ballots Being Mailed Out
HOA Secretary Joe McCalpin, assisted by the lovely and talented Barbara McCalpin, will be mailing ballots and notices of the annual meeting to homeowners this week. Look for yours in the mail. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 21, 2013; it will be held at the GVR Desert Hills Social Center.

New Path
Thanks to Dick Carver for creating a new path through Palo Verde del Norte Park (previously 'Pie I'.) Now you can walk through the area without having a close encounter with the huge agave that blocked the old path.  Another great example of the volunteer spirit here in EE.

Our Hospitality Committee Needs YOU
The Hospitality Committee is looking for a few volunteers to help out at social events. There are no meetings involved. Just good, old-fashioned work, a lot of team spirit and the undying appreciation of all EE residents who love our social events. You've seen hospitality volunteers in action at our Ramada functions, and if you would like to join them, contact Scottie at 399-0955 or send an email to goingtodoitall@earthlink.net.

Christmas Carolers Spread Cheer
Twenty-seven EE Carolers raised their voices in song last Friday evening to spread Christmas cheer around our neighborhood. Many thanks to Elaine Taylor, Jim & Jeri Lindberg, Kevin & Linda Welsh, Stacie Meyer, Patty Adler, Mary Hess, ['conductor'] Jim & Lorna Kitchak, Kris & Del Bean, Suzanne & Ron Keitzer, Carol & Charles Covert, Rich Thompson, Barb & Michael Christopher, Pat Flowers, Charles Pyke, Cynthia & Hugh Gates, Joan Moreaux, Mary Ferland, and Craig & Cynthia Surprise.
Doorbell ringers brought appreciative EE residents to their courtyards to hear enthusiastic renditions of such old favorites as "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Jingle Bells," and "Silent Night." Carolers brought their evening to a close with refreshments at the home of Ben and Mona Sheffield. Click here to see photos.

Luminarias
Following EE's annual tradition of "lighting the way," residents of Circulo Napa lined their street from Whigham Wash to Portillo with luminarias last Saturday evening. A large crowd of appreciative residents followed the glowing candles to the Moulton home where they enjoyed refreshments. We thank all the participants for their efforts. Getting the luminarias going is more work than you might think, as the first two photos show... click here to see the photos.

Condolences
We were saddened to learn of the death of Penny Balas last week. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley on La Canada. Our condolences to her family and friends.
