Monday Morning Memo

December 23, 2013        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Luminarias Tonight
Miss the luminarias at Tumacacori and Tubac?  You can still experience this beautiful Southwest tradition right here in EE. The annual event starts at dusk (very approximately 5:45 p.m.) on Circulo Napa.
Now Dash Away, Dash Away, Dash Away All!
Dash away with the EE Adventure Group on Thursday, December 26 to San Javier Mission.  If you want to car pool, please contact Cynthia Surprise cjsurprise@verizon.net to sign up. We will leave from the Ramada at 10:15 a.m.  If you want to drive on your own, the tour starts promptly at 11:00. Jolene Hartje will be our docent.

Winter Changes to Pickleball Schedule

When the weather gets cold (for Arizona, anyway) the Pickleball enthusiasts grab an extra cup of coffee.  Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Recreational players meet at 10 am.  Competitive players continue to meet at 11 a.m. on Sundays.

First Day Potluck
Resolve to have more fun and meet new people in 2014. The annual First Day Potluck on January 1 will get you off to a good start. Please bring a luncheon dish to share, your beverage of choice and your own table service.  The Potluck starts at 1:00 at the Ramada.
Call Jane Ellingson (625-7782) or Mona Sheffield (625-3797) to volunteer to help out.
Want a Little Spice in Your Life?   Come to EE's first ever Chili Cook-off on January 14 organized by the Hospitality Committee.  For $5.00 you can sample all the entries and vote for your favorites. The price includes breads, crackers, a beverage and condiments. Tasting will begin at 5:00.  If you would like to donate any of the accompaniments (cornbread, crackers, beverages, etc.) contact Marla Ries at gvmarlaries@gmail.com.

Rules to enter your chili:
1. You must notify Bill Berdine (344-7301 or whberdine@roadrunner.com) by Jan. 10.
2. You must furnish 5-10 quarts of ready-to-serve chili.
3. Chili must be in a slow cooker/crock-pot.
4. Chili must be delivered to 802 Calle del Regalo by 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 14.
5. You must not advertise which chili is yours (for example, don't put your name on the crock-pot).
No Silent Night
Thanks to the 30 carolers who spread holiday cheer throughout EE last Thursday at the second annual Christmas Caroling.  Special thanks to choirmaster Rich Thompson for leading the caroling and to Barb Christopher and Cynthia Surprise for organizing the event.

Perambulating Through a Seasonal Fantasy?

Familiar carols?  The carols were familiar--even if the names were not--when EE residents collaborated to solve the puzzles presented by Joan Moreaux.  More than 50 Esperanzans joined the merriment at the festively decorated Ramada--feasting on the munchies and sipping the "velvet gloved" punch and Aztec hot chocolate.  Hearty holiday thanks go to Marla Ries and the cadre of hosts and hostesses responsible.

Board Meeting Highlights

Last Monday's EE Board meeting was a quick one.  The installation of acoustic tile was approved.  Enhancement plans a February 15 Dessert Buffet. Want to read the rest? Check it out at esperanzaestates.net.
