Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

December 19

Good Morning:

The December  Board meeting will be held today, beginning at 1:00, at the Ramada.  A meeting agenda is included below. All residents are invited to attend. This will be the last regular Board meeting of 2011.

EE resident John Meek has a new book to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor week before last.  It's titled, "The Other Pearl Harbor, The Army Air Corps & Its Heroes on Dec. 7, 1941." The Foreword is written by Dr. Donald M. Goldstein, the preeminent living Pearl Harbor author/historian who has coauthored three bestsellers on the subject. In the Foreword Dr. Goldstein writes:

"This is an entertaining read that I believe is an important work because it adds to the Pearl Harbor literature a missing dimension -- the story of two men who are usually given only one or two lines in most books but were truly American heroes and who, unlike many on that fateful morning, were not asleep.";

John's book is available at The Bookshop in the Green Valley Village Mall.

The 2012 EE Directory will be printed and ready to be sold at the annual meeting this year.  If you have any changes to your phone number[s], the way you want your name[s] to appear, or to be added to the directory if you are long-term renters, Mary Beth Wallace needs to have the changes by year's end. Call her at 399-0299, or send an email to: merrymary7@cox.net

Remember Free Coffee and Donuts to be held on December 21, at 8:30 am. Come on down and have a cup and a donut (or two) with your neighbors, and socialize for a spell. Some drawings for prizes will be held, and you might get lucky. Following the festivities, the EE Volunteer "clean up" crew will be initiating its first project of the season, so bring your clippers, rakes, and other implements to join in. We need the volunteers particularly to bring a garden rake or leaf blower for gravel patrol, wire brushes for paint removal on the three picnic tables metal legs and frames and anyone with extra cans of exterior black spray paint we would appreciate donations.  Two cans of paint per table will be needed. The group will be helping to spruce up Esperanza Park on Holgado (sometimes erroneously called Flag Park) for the use of the EE Gardeners to further improve upon Last year this group of volunteers accomplished an enormous amount of much-needed work in several of our common areas, and we arehoping for the same this year. No one works too hard, we have a lot of fun, and get a lot done to help our common areas. The work projects last only an hour or two.

Hamburger Nites  will commence again in January. Watch for announcements.

Many thanks to our volunteers who have so beautifully decorated the Sunset Park and Ramada areas for Christmas. If you have not seen their handiwork, be sure and go by and take a look.

A large number of additional volunteers have signed up to decorate  tiles for the ceramic snake project Kathy Sawin, project leader, reports that the group will need many more ceramic pieces--dishes, cups, etc. to complete all of the tiles.  She asks all residents to donate as many pieces as they can and would like the volunteers to bring some with them to the workshops to use on their tiles. Dishes and other ceramic pieces can be left in the plastic boxes at the far end of the Ramada.

Come down to the Ramada and check out the possible new trim colors being considered, and vote for your choices. The colors and the voting box and ballots are located near the bulletin board. Please cast a vote on the color choices by the end of December. The question of allowing new colors to be used will require a general vote at the annual meeting in January. Under the CC&Rs, it takes 51% of the lot owners to amend the CC&Rs, which in EE translates to 179 positive votes being needed for the amendment to be implemented.

EE annual dues are due by the end of the year, and the HOA would appreciate prompt payment. Remember, if not paid on time, they will bear a penalty, so please take care of at your earliest chance.

Kudos to Denise Roessle, who, noting an empty house near her residence, decorated its lamp post rather than see it go bare. That demonstrates walking on the shoulders of giants!

The EEHOA annual meeting will be held January 16, 2012, so it is not too early to be making your plans to attend. You should receive a mailing about the meeting containing an agenda and other important information in a few days. At the meeting, 3 new directors for the HOA Board will be elected, and a vote proposing an amendment to the CC&Rs to allow additional trim color changes will be held.

Elf Jackie Rautio reports the Enhancement Team decorated 19 lamp posts in EE for people who wanted it done but were not able or did not have the time to do so themselves.

More than 2 inches of rain here over Monday and Tuesday of last week. Unusual to have that much rain in that time span this time of year.

This will be the last Memo before Christmas, so we extend to you a wish for a merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, Festivus, or what ever your holiday may be.

Have a good week.
