Monday Morning Memo

December 17, 2012        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

EE Hikers to Madera Canyon Today
EE Hikers meet at the Ramada at 8 am today to carpool to Madera Canyon. The group will hike the trail from the Proctor parking lot to the amphitheatre, a trek of 3.5 miles with 550 feet of elevation. Car fare $2.
There will be no hike Monday, December 24.
Last week's hike to the Stone House in the Tucson Mountains was a rousing success. Yep, hikers actually found what they were looking for after only four, "Well, do you think we should turn around here" s. Many thanks to Fearless Leader Marian Mundale for her research and direction.

Board Meeting Today
The December meeting of the HOA board will take place at the Ramada today at 1:00 p.m. A copy of the agenda is included at the end of this memo.

Spreading Good Cheer
The EE Christmas Carolers will be spreading good cheer the old fashioned way starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21 (the first day of winter). We guarantee they will put you in the holiday mood. Show your support by coming out to listen when they are on your block. The Sheffields have generously offered to provide refreshments to the carolers after the performance.
Potential carolers will meet at the Ramada today after the board meeting (approximately 2:00 p.m.) to discuss plans. No tryouts required.

Public Arts Club Meeting
The EE Public Arts Club will meet Wednesday, December 19, at 10 am in the Ramada. Snake location, tortoise decorations, adobe houses, cement flowers and birdhouses are potential topics of discussion. Have an arts/crafts interest? Drop by to connect with other enthusiasts.

Movie Of The Week
Christmas Cabin will be shown at the EE Cinema (a.k.a. the Ramada) at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 19. Heaters are available and coffee and cookies will be served during intermission.

We're Looking Festive
Is it my imagination or have residents outdone themselves this year with holiday decorations on homes and lamp posts? The monuments and EE Park look fantastic too, thanks to the efforts of some creative volunteers. On Saturday, December 22, at dusk we'll be treated to another wonderful display when residents of lower Napa line the sidewalks with lighted luminarias. You'll want to bundle up and stroll down the street to take in this spectacular event. It's yet another example of the community spirit that abounds in EE.

Countdown to 2013
Only 15 days left before the first day of the new year and the annual First Day Potluck lunch at the Ramada at 1:00 p.m. Bring a dish to share, your beverage of choice and your tableware. Coffee will be available. Please let Jane Ellingson or Mona Sheffield know if you can help with the set up and clean up duties.

Plan for Pool Closing
January 7 is the date for beginning work on the pool decking. The pool and spa will be closed for approximately 7 days for completion.

For The Birds
The EE Arts Club is holding a raffle for a beautiful ceramic birdhouse. The birdhouse is only decorative and birds will not be able to nest in it, but it will surely add charm to your garden or courtyard. Tickets cost $1 each or 6 for $5.00 and will be sold at the First Day Potluck on January 1 and at other social events at the Ramada.

Stuffing a Rectangular Stocking?
Still looking for that perfect gift for an EE friend/neighbor? Bill Berdine of the EE Gardeners has created two attractive license plates for EE residents. The 'iconic plate' displays the familiar EE logo always at the top of this memo. Bill's own EE sunset photograph graces the 'sunset plate'. You can see both displayed at the Ramada.  E-mail Bill at whberdine@roadrunner.com to purchase plates for just $10 each. Profits from the sales will fund future EE Gardeners' projects.

Artists 'Clean Up'
Thanks to Karyn Grob, Roger Oster, Sandi Oster, and Marian Mundale who have been working hard to clean up the Art Trail.
