Monday Morning Memo----December 17th

Good Morning:

75 people braved the chilly evening last Monday to attend and enjoy the Hospitality Committee’s Happy Hour, held in conjunction with the Enhancement Committee’s auction. The snacks were plentiful and the refreshments superb, and all enjoyed the evening, despite the temperatures. There were libations suitable for all tastes, and it was "pour your own". Just a really fun evening, enjoyed by all. If you missed this one, you missed a good time.

Earlier in the day the Committees had decorated the ramada with colored lighting, Christmas trees, and table cloths. It looked very festive.

The auction and the raffle went quite well, raising over six hundred sixty dollars for subdivision enhancements. Ed Buchholz did a superb job as auctioneer. An interesting selection of auction items were offered and the bidding was most spirited.

Because of the chill, it seemed a good time to talk up the purchase of propane heaters for the ramada. The talk was more than successful. Three propane heaters were donated outright, by the Ellingsons, the Simontons, and the Cookes. More than $230 were donated by passing the hat, which will be sufficient, or nearly so, to purchase a forth. Since 6 heaters is believed sufficient to handle the task, our Enhancement Team decided to purchase the final two. All six have been ordered, and should be delivered in the near future. We wish to thank the Team and all of our donors for their generosity. These items will make future gatherings at the ramada during chillier weather considerably more pleasant. Thanks go out to Eric and Jane Ellingson for researching the most appropriate type heaters for our use, and for finding a good buy on the same.

It is pretty amazing to consider that since the new ramada was constructed, nearly $12,000 has been donated for outfitting and improving the same. When we work together for a common purpose, we accomplish a great deal. Our Enhancement Team and all of our other benefactors are very much appreciated.

Our thanks go out to all the volunteers on both the Hospitality and the Enhancement Committees for putting on this great and productive evening for all of us to enjoy.

The ad hoc pool committee met December 11th at the ramada. Many topics involving the pool and its use were discussed. The consensus of the committee was to recommend to the Board that the pool hours be changed to 9 am to 6 pm during the winter period, to save natural gas expense, and that the pool cover be used whenever possible during these months for the same reason. Also, that the present mechanical type cover should be replaced when funds become available with an electrically operated cover, but that the ability to open and close the cover be restricted to a few qualified operators. Finally, that a job description be written for all matters involving pool maintenance, so that a volunteer or employee in the future will know exactly what is expected and what needs to be accomplished as far as the pool is concerned. These recommendations will be provided to the Board at today’s meeting for possible implementation

It has been noted there is a possible violator of the pool hours who is swimming before the pool is suppose to open, currently 7 am. If this continues, there is a possibility of instituting a fine for this violation. If this might be you, kindly adhere to the posted pool hours. If you might know the individual involved, please pass this message on. Pool hours exist for a reason, and are expected to be

followed.

Kudos to our own resident golf teacher and expert, Marvol Barnard (Sam’s wife), who just achieved another honor and award to add to her teaching credentials. You can read about Marvol at http://www.gvnews.com (edition of 12-12-07) Click on Sports to read an article entitled "Haven Golf Instructor in Rare Company". Congratulations, Marvol! We’re proud of you!

Please keep in mind the Giant Garage Sale being planned by the Enhancement Team for early March of next year. Donations are being solicited of your used articles for the sale, and will be picked up by the Team. Just call Bev at 625-7741, Sandy at 625-0039, or Jane at 625-7782. All sale proceeds are used for the betterment of Esperanza Estates, so this is a worthy enterprise and deserving of your help.

The Board meeting for December will be held today at the ramada at 1:00 pm. It appears it will be warm enough for that venue. The meeting agenda appears below.

Have a good week. How about those foggy mornings last week? That never happens here!
