Board Meeting Today
Need to ensure your name is in the "nice" column on Santa's list?  Attend the HOA Board meeting today at 1:00 p.m. at the Ramada. Santa knows who the attendees are. The board would like to hear your comments about the look of the trial installation of acoustic tile in the Ramada.  With installation throughout the Ramada, we'll all hear your comments more clearly.  A copy of the meeting agenda is at the end of this memo.
Coffee & Donuts
The monthly complimentary coffee and donuts will take place at the Ramada this Wednesday, December 18, starting at 8:30 a.m. Thanks to the Cookes and the Millers for sponsoring this delightful event.  Fear not the nippy mornings. Heaters will be in place if needed.
'Tis the Season
Celebrate the season with your friends and neighbors at the Ramada this Thursday, December 19. The holiday party will start at 5:15. Please bring an appetizer or holiday baked goods to share. The Hospitality Committee will provide hot chocolate, coffee and special holiday punch.

The second annual EE Christmas Caroling will take place this Thursday, December 19 before the holiday party, starting at 4:00. Please come out and listen to the carolers at one of the following locations near you: 4:00 p.m. at Mesquite Park (Camino Holgado); 4:15 at the intersection of Regalo and Portillo; 4:35 at the intersection of Napa and Ensalmo; and 4:50 in front of 716 Placita Nueva. All times are approximate, but you'll hear the music and golf cart horns when we are approaching.
Carolers will meet at Mesquite Park at 3:50 p.m.

Please contact Cynthia Surprise at cjsurprise@verizon.net if you plan to participate, and let us know if you have a golf cart you're willing to drive.

Uncommon Common Area Maintenance Schedule

Hot Desert's crew will be working their last day of 2013 on December 18.  Christmas and New Year's weeks are a scheduled holiday hiatus.  If you have common area maintenance concerns, please hold your calls until January 6.  Mary Hess' father passed away last week andDean and Mary are out of town. Our sympathy goes out to the family.

Aqua Exercise Change

Thursday, December 19 the EE Aqua Exercise group will not meet. Hey, you can't expect them to go caroling or partying with wet hair!

Luminarias
EE's most beautiful annual event is the luminarias display put on by the residents on Circulo Napa. Take a peaceful stroll down the street at dusk on Monday, December 23. It will put you in the Christmas spirit.
Twas the Day After Christmas...
when all through EE,
eager residents were starting their grand adventure spree.*

Join EE's Adventure Group on their first adventure to San Javier Mission on Thursday, Dec.  26.
The tour will start at 11:00, but we will meet at 10:15 at the Ramada and carpool to the mission. Contact Cynthia Surprise at cjsurprise@verizon.net to sign up for the adventure.

 *Apologies to Clement Clark Moore.

1/1 at 1:00
The annual First Day Potluck will be held on the first day of January 2014 at 1:00 at the Ramada. This popular event is organized by Jane Ellingson and Mona Sheffield. Please bring luncheon fare to share.  Contact Jane (625-7782) or Mona (625-3797) if you are willing to help out.
Some Like It Hot: EE Chili Cook-off
The Hospitality Committee has been busy coming up with new ideas for social gatherings in EE. Their January event will be the Chili Cook-off on Tuesday, January 14. Chili lovers will relish this opportunity to sample a variety of chili dishes prepared by our residents.  Think your recipe is a winner? Click here for details on how to enter the contest
Dues Due
Reminder that the EEHOA annual compliance form and dues notice have been sent out to all EE homeowners.  Dues must be paid by January 1. If you did not receive this important information, please contact our treasurer, Joan Moreaux, at 648-7515.
The Name Game
Production of the 2014 EE Names and Address Directory starts soon.  Please check the current directory to be sure it lists your correct phone number, and your name appears the way you would like it. For example, you may prefer to list your nickname if that's how everyone knows you. Contact Cheri Day at 207-9830 or Mary Beth Wallace at 399-0299 with changes.
Plant Transplant
Thanks to May Currie for her generous donation of approximately 50 agave pups to the EE gardeners.  If you have plants in your yard that you know longer want, contact Bill Berdine at 344-7301 to find out if they are transplant candidates.
Nextdoor
Nextdoor Green Valley Esperanza Estates, a free social network that lets EE residents communicate with each other, is proving to be very popular.  Almost 100 residents have signed up, and many have already sent out informative messages.  It's a good way to advertise items for sale, get tradesperson recommendations or ask general questions. With all the mavens in EE, someone is sure to know the answer, and if you're so-inclined, you can include a photo of your holiday lights.  If you want to sign up, click here.
Thanks to Bruce Liljegren for suggesting Nextdoor and to Craig Surprise for setting it up for us.
Freeze Preparation Tips
To avoid frozen water pipes this winter, make sure to check the insulation on your exterior water pipes and replace any that may have deteriorated from the sun or been damaged by animals; also check the insulation on the water softener pipes, if you have one.  If a freeze is forecast, leaving a cold water faucet in one of the bathrooms open a bit, so that it is dripping, will help to keep water flowing through the pipes so it won't have a chance to freeze.
If you wake up one frigid morning and have no water, try using a hairdryer (not a blowtorch!) to heat the water pipe where it enters at the front of your house. Keeping an inside faucet turned on slightly will let you know when the pipe is thawed out and the water starts flowing again.
If you have cold water in the kitchen sink, but none in the bathrooms and no hot water at all, try heating the pipes at the back of the house.  There will be a simple U-shaped run of pipe if you don't have a water softener; if you do have a water softener, use the hairdryer to heat its piping as well.
