Monday Morning Memo

December 1, 2014        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Hike Anyone?
In the mood for a little EE hiking? Gather round the Ramada at 8:30 am tomorrow and Tom Skupa and Concetta Deodati will herd (or is it head?) you all out to the hills. No serious planning yet. Just friends out for a view of the valley.

Cool Pool Resolved
The problems with the pool heating have been resolved, and the pool is usable. This time of year, with the cooler weather, we try to keep the pool covered in order to save the expense of heating it when not in actual use. This helps keep our annual dues lower. If you wish to use the pool and find it covered, call Tom Cooke at 399-0455.

Don't Put the Trash Out
Reminder to Titan customers that effective today, Titan will no longer collect trash on Mondays. Recycle will still be picked up on Wednesdays, but trash collection is now only on Thursdays.

Book Group
The Book Group meets at the Ramada at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, to discuss Empty Mansions. New members are always welcome. If you are looking for a good book or want to donate one (or many) remember to check the Book Exchange in the pool enclosure area of the Ramada. Thanks to Cindy Krantz for maintaining this wonderful resource.

Wednesday Night Movie
Ready for a little action?  Showing at the Ramada this Wednesday will be The Expendables 3, an action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone. This week only, the movie will start at 7:00 p.m.  Popcorn will be provided, please bring your own beverage of choice.

Yikes, it's December Already!
Wasn't it just the fourth of July?  It's time to decorate your lamp post for the holidays. We always enjoy seeing how creative our residents are in coming up with festive displays.
If you need someone to decorate your lamp post, call Jackie at 269-7864 and she'll send an Enhancement Elf your way. Cost to decorate is $10 if you have the decorations, $15 if you don't, and $2 if you need the electrical adaptor. Deadline to call is December 15. After that the elves need to head back to the North Pole.

2 Down, 2 to Go
The Ramada and Esperanza Estates Park have been decked out for the holidays. Stroll by to see these festive displays. Thanks to Bev Brow, Cyndy Gates, Fern Gunther, Marian Mundale, Sandy Oster, Mona Sheffield, and Mary Beth Wallace for decorating the Ramada and to Kris Bean, Jim and Lorna Kitchak, Frank and Louise McCabe, Craig and Cynthia Surprise, and Kevin and Linda Welsh for the display at EE Park.

Holiday Party
Take time out from your hectic holiday schedule and join your neighbors in celebrating the season at the Hospitality Committee's party on Tuesday, December 9 starting at 4:30 at the Ramada. You don't even have to cook for this one. For $6.00 you can get a burger, condiments, a pickle, chips and cookies (baked by our Hospitality Elves). Complimentary beer, wine, soda and water will also be available.

Grandkids Visiting for the Holidays?
Holiday travel is hectic enough without having to schlep baby equipment through the airport. Avoid putting your kids through that hassle by borrowing the Enhancement Team's loaner equipment. There's even an Aerobed for adult visitors.
You can find a list of available items on our website esperanzaestaes.net.
Call Lorna Kitchak (838-0653) or Barb McCalpin (867-8067) to check out any items.

New Pickleball Schedule
With colder morning weather (brrrr) pickleball times will be later. Hard to play with gloves on.  New schedule effective today is: Open Play: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday 10:00 a.m. Ladies Only: Thursday 10:00 a.m.
Note that Wednesdays have been added to the schedule.  Tennis is played on Fridays.

Save a Life with an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
You've seen them in stores, on public transportation, in public buildings and in Green Valley Rec Centers.  AEDs are designed to save the life of an individual whose heart has stopped.  GVR offers free monthly classes for members who wish to learn the Sarver life saving technique using chest compression and an AED.  The next two-hour training class is Monday, December 15 at 2 pm in the Desert Hills Auditorium.  GVR members (half of the homes in EE have GVR memberships) can register at any social center.  For information call Maureen McCarthy at 625-3440.

Green Valley Council Social Hour
Today, December 1st, at 4:00 p.m. at the Grill on the Green. Members of the GVC Executive Board will be there to listen and talk to the residents about issues that affect their HOA and/or the community. All are welcome to attend.
