Monday Morning Memo---------------December 8th

Good Morning:

The Board has invited Brian Boyd of the Brinks Company to address our homeowners about home security at Sunset Ramada on December 15, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Mr. Boyd is a noted expert on home security and preventative measures to protect your home from burglaries, such as the recent rash we have experienced in EE. The talk will last about 30 minutes. In view of our experiences over the summer, it is up to all of us to take measures to protect our homes and property from the thieves operating in this area. We learned the hard way how easily an area such our neighborhood can go from a virtual crime-free area to one in which at least 14 homes were entered and stolen from in just a few short months. Please plan on attending this important presentation. It is up to each one of us--we can be a victim--or we can take charge. We hope to see you there.

More than 150 people attended the Hospitality Committee’s Christmas Party on December 7 at Sunset Ramada. It was a new attendance record for any event at the Ramada; it was standing room only for a time---and it was great! The decorations were very merry and Christmassy, the food was superb, and the drinks free-flowing and varied, and all had a fabulous time. The raffle was won by Ken Miller. The music was wonderful, and many showed their skills at the organ. May all future Christmas Parties at the Ramada be as festive and as much fun as this one. We hope you were there!

The Enhancement Team held a very successful Holiday Boutique and Bake Sale last Wednesday. Everyone who attended enjoyed the complimentary coffee and goodies and were delighted with the gift items for sale. Again, thank you to all who donated sale items and baked goods.

The next E-Team event will be the First Day BBQ and Potluck at the Sunset Ramada on January 1, 2- 4 p.m. Plan to join your friends and neighbors to welcome the New Year! Plates, cutlery and glasses will be provided. Bring something to grill, a dish to share and your favorite beverage. You will find a sign up sheet by the bulletin board at the Ramada, which will help the team know how many to prepare for. Questions? Contact Tess (625-7353), Geri (777-4972), or Barb (867-8067).

Due to the colder morning weather recently, the water aerobics class will be suspended until further notice--and warmer weather.

Pool and spa testers: A new test kit has been put in place of the old one. It is simpler, faster, and uses only 2 reagents. Instructions are with the new kit, and will take only minutes to learn.

It is official--Coffee and Donuts at Sunset Ramada is now a permanent event, and will be held at Sunset Ramada the second Wednesday of each month. This is a “freebee”, and the entire subdivision is invited. This time of year the event will begin at 8:00 a.m., until ? The first one will be this Wednesday, December 10. No program, no agenda, no charge, just a social time for a chat and a cup and a donut (or two!). Join us for this, and put it on your calendar permanently---every second Wednesday of every month. If it’s chilly, we’ll turn on a heater, so no worries. This event is sponsored by your Board, but is privately financed and will involve the use of no HOA funds.

The final plumbing and electrical have been completed at the new counter area in Sunset Ramada, including the hot water connection. The Hospitality Committee’s refrigerator has had the ice and water dispenser re-connected as well. Thus, cold water and ice will be available at the facility 24-7. The project is now complete, and a terrific addition to our Ramada. Thanks go out to all of our volunteers who contributed and worked on this project. If you have not seen it, be sure to go by and take a look.

We had 15 pickleball players last Tuesday, a record turnout. We had more new players on Thursday. Lessons and play continue each Tuesday and Thursday morning, but due to the fact it is a bit colder in the mornings, the time has been changed to begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at noon. A new pickleball ball holder has been added to the court, courtesy of our instructor-coach, Gary Beatty.

Those interested in playing or learning the Bunco game should be at Sunset Ramada today at 2:00 p.m. for lessons and a game.

Now that December is upon us, it is the tradition in EE to decorate your street-light post with Christmas attire. Help is available if you need it. For the sum of only $5.00, Melodye and Sheila will decorate your post--if you have your own decorations. If not, then the charge is $10--which will include the decorations, which are then yours to keep. This charge includes taking the decorations down as well after New Year‘s Day. Call 399-0501, or 399-0455 to schedule. This service will be available from today until December 15, so schedule early if interested.

Be sure and take a few minutes some evening between now and Christmas to walk or drive around our subdivision. The gala lights and decorations are beautiful to see. Out thanks to the Enhancement Team and Hospitality for the common area decorations.

As in the last several years, there will be a luminaria on Tuesday, December 23 beginning at dusk. Please mark your calendar. It will start at the 700 block of West Circulo Napa (corner of Napa and Portillo) and will proceed west toward the Santa Rita mountains and around the curve of the circle. All Esperanza residents are welcome to come and view the luminaria. This is a spectacular sight. If anybody has a question, they can contact Barb McCalpin (867-8067) or Mary Beth Wallace (399-0299). It's possible that some residents may be inspired to organize similar luminarias in their areas of Esperanza.

The regular December Board meeting will be held next Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Sunset Ramada, immediately following the security talk by Mr. Boyd.

Have a good week.
