Green Valley, AZ

November 7

Good Morning:

Our Halloween potluck was a smash success! There were lots of spooky costumes, a great array of savory collations, music & singing, drinks, and a great time. Attendance was upwards of 100. Thanks to our Hospitality Committee for planning and putting on this event, and for decorating and cleaning up the Ramada before and afterwards. This event gets bigger and better each year. Watch for a write up and photos in the November Periodico, where the winning costumes will be  shown.  Winners were Chris and Joanne Amoroso, first place; Joan Moreaux, second place, and Don Helms, third place. Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the others who didn't win, but won a place in history.

Some good news: Eric Ellingson has agreed to serve the balance of Stoney Brown's Board term, following his resignation due to health issues.  As many of you know, Eric is a long time resident of EE, and has helped out the HOA on numerous projects over the past many years. He will be formally appointed at the November Board meeting.  We welcome Eric to the Board, where we expect his advice and counsel will be invaluable.

Tomorrow night will be the second of the fall Hamburger Nites at the Ramada, starting at 4:30 with cocktails, and grilling at 5. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or veggi-burgers, served with a pickle, chips and a drink--a mere $5.00. Come on down and enjoy a fun evening with your friends and neighbors.

All persons who have ordered name tags may pick them up at the next Hamburger Nite, to be held at the Ramada on November 8 (tomorrow).  120 tags have been ordered since the program began. Not too late to order if you are one of the few who have not done so. To order, see Melodye at the event, call 399-0455, or email her at melodye1@cox.net  The cost? A nominal $6.00.  If you have already picked up your tag and taken it home, please wear it to Hamburger Nite and plan on leaving it. We are in the process of constructing a secure place to store the tags so they will be available each time there is an event at the Ramada, so you won't have to worry about losing it, or forgetting to wear it.

IMPORTANT ISSUE

At the request of a number of homeowners who are interested in being able to change the color of the trim in Esperanza Estates to something other than Norfolk brown, the MMM is providing information about how this change can be accomplished and what plans are in the works.

The requirement would be to amend the CC&R's to eliminate the wording that restricts trim color to "the original color".  In the amendment will be wording that creates a 'Rule' (i.e., a Board Resolution) established by the Board of Directors of EE that regulates what colors can be used.  This will allow for occasional changes to the colors when and if the homeowners would like further changes.  By having a Rule instead of a CC&R or By-Law governing the colors, change can be accomplished in a more timely manner. This change in the CC&R's can only be made by a vote of the homeowners in Esperanza Estates; it cannot be done by the Board alone.

One current proposal is that 6 trim colors be established: 1 would be Norfolk brown, 1 would be the current house color, and 4 others would be chosen by a vote of the homeowners. The 4 other colors will be developed in consultation with Dunn Edwards, and samples will be displayed at the Ramada, beginning in December, for all interested parties to view.  All of the 4 additional trim colors would be harmonious with the existing 4 house colors, and with each other, so that we would not be exposed to clashing trim paint.

As far as timing is concerned, the earliest this change could take effect would be immediately following an affirmative vote on the question at the Annual Meeting in January 2012.  A general survey, delivered via email, is being planned to gage the sentiment within EE for such a change.

Some serious termite damage has been found in part of the cabinetry at the Ramada. Repairs are under study.

The HOA budget committee met last Thursday to work on the tentative budget for the coming year. A final meeting will be held today, November 7, at 10:00 a.m. The budget is required to be adopted at the November Board meeting, scheduled for November 21. All Board meetings are open to any interested EE resident.

Free Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada will be held again on November 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m. See below for a special event which will take place during this time.

PICKLEBALL RETURNS!

The fall pickleball program will begin anew this coming Wednesday, November 9. Interested players should meet at the tennis/pickleball court at around 9:30 a.m. so we can plan the future of the season. See you there.

The Esperanza Gardeners met on November 1 and made plans for going forward with a beautification program for our three monument areas (Esperanza Blvd., Portillo south end, and Sunset Ramada arch). Their plans include the placement of new colored pots and plantings to dress up these areas, making them even more attractive. The work will begin today at 1:30 at the Sunset Ramada arch; you're invited to stop by and help out--or just watch. The Esperanza Gardeners are also considering other interesting projects, including some with artistic tile work, and other areas to improve. Watch this space for further announcements and information, or email Bill Berdine for more info.

EE artist Kathy Sawin has come up with a great idea for an EE community project to celebrate Arizona's centennial, which will occur in February 2012.   Kathy is planning on creating several ceramic murals depicting various aspects of Arizona. (An example of her murals is shown in the April 2010 Periodico.) She would like other EE residents to work with her on the project. Kathy uses broken ceramic pieces to create her murals, and we are asking residents to contribute their broken or chipped pieces (solid colors), or leftover grout from a tiling project. The kickoff of the project will take place at the next Coffee and Donuts on Wednesday, November 16, at the Ramada.

An adult cat, totally black in color, has been reported missing. The cat was last seen Friday near the corner of Excelso and del Norte. The cat's name is Annie. If you have seen this animal, please call Annie's owner, Natalie, at 206-445-3996. Natalie thanks you for any help you can provide.
