Monday Morning Memo

November 5, 2012        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Attention Swimmers
Reminder that winter pool hours (7: 00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) are now in effect.

EE Hikers Head Out Today
The hikers of EE meet this morning at 8 am at the Ramada to carpool and hike to Roger's Rock in Madera Canyon. Bring at least 3 liters of water, snacks, layered clothing, and a few bucks for gas money. This is a 4.5 mile intermediate trail with 1,450 feet of elevation accumulation. It includes rocky trails and stream crossings. All EE residents are welcome to join the group--no fees, no forms, just fun and exercise.

Election Day Transportation
If you want to vote tomorrow but need a ride to the polls, call Lillian Sako at 928-651-3848. Thanks Lillian for this generous offer.

Meek To Speak
Noted author and EE resident John Meek will be talking about his book, The Other Pearl Harbor, The Army Air Corp & Its Heroes on Dec. 7, 1941, at Joyner Library at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Budget Committee Meeting
A meeting of the HOA Budget Committee will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 1 p.m. at the Ramada. All interested homeowners may attend.

Photo Contest
Come on EE photographers, we know you haven't retired your cameras! Get them clicking and send those award-winning photos to the Periodico by Friday, November 16. Don't consider yourself a photographer? Send in those lucky shots. Sometimes they are the best. Submit your photos to droessel@mac.com or deliver them to 801 Circulo Napa.

Name That Park
The November 17th deadline to submit names for the two parks on Del Norte is fast approaching. E-mail your nominations to ee.mondaymorningmemo@gmail.com or call Cynthia Surprise at 205-2742.

Learn About GVFD Lock Boxes
The Green Valley Fire Department Residential Lock Box Program makes key boxes available at a nominal cost, and provides a secure method for firefighters to access your home when no one can open the door. On Monday, November 19, immediately after the HOA Board meeting, Captain Jeff Mooney from the Green Valley Fire District will make a 15 minute presentation explaining Lock Boxes and the Fire Alarm Battery Exchange Program. Even if you don't want the service for yourself, you are encouraged to attend and pass the information on to a friend or neighbor who might benefit from these programs. Mary Beth Wallace urges all Neighborhood Watch Block Captains to attend.

EE Directory
The EE Directory includes names, addresses and phone numbers for EE residents, and is quite a handy reference. The 2013 EE Directory will be available in January, but any changes must be received by December 1.  If you have any changes to your phone number, the way you want your name to appear, or to be added to the directory, contact Mary Beth Wallace at 399-0299 or email: merrymary7@q.com.

Name Badges
Frustrated by trying to find or replace your EE name badge in the box? Relief is at hand. A second box has been added to give us more room.  What a great testament to the popularity of our Ramada events!  If the magnet on the badge is lost, contact Melodye for a replacement ($1.00) at melodye1@cox.net or 399-0455.

Halloween Gala
A small but lively crowd enjoyed many Halloween treats at the annual Halloween pot luck last Wednesday. We were also treated to many creative costumes devised by clever EE residents. Wendall and Antje Lear (bikers) took first prize in the costume contest. Other winners were: Lonnie Borgman (pirate), Del and Kris Bean (Green Valley Rapper and girlfriend), Lynn Raby (nun), Cynthia Surprise (bride), Bruce and Judy Moulton (saguaro and prickly pear), Tom Buinicki and Mary Ferland (Sonny and Cher), Jim Beckerleg (convict) and Leon Meyer (Jimmy Durante). If you left early, you missed one of the evenings highlights -- Karaoke performances by some talented residents. Many thanks to the Hospitality Committee for hosting the party and the effort they put in to be sure we all had a good time.

Paint Color Proposal
A large number of EE residents attended the special Board meeting last Monday to learn more about the proposal allowing alternative colors to Norfolk Brown. The Paint Group presented computer generated photos of EE homes painted with the proposed colors.  (Click: http://eepaintcolors.shutterfly.com/pictures and enter the password "paint" to view the photos; if you have any problems accessing the photos, email paint@esperanzaestates.net. Please do not contact the MMM or the webmaster.) Color boards are also on display in the Ramada. The Paint Group has revised the proposed amendment in response to concerns expressed at the meeting, and the revised amendment is expected to be available on the EE website (esperanzaestates.net) on Monday, November 5. The Color Group welcomes feedback from residents. You can email your questions and comments to them at paint@esperanzaestates.net.

EE Gardeners
The EE Gardeners are in motion--planning for common area park updates and makeovers. The focus is on heat- and drought-tolerant plants suited to the Green Valley climate. They'll be looking for possible new plant and transplant donations and nurturing neighbors to water the plantings until they've become established. Interested in donating or watering? Mark your calendar now for the next meeting Thursday, December 6 at 1:30 in Mesquite Park.
