Monday Morning Memo------------------November 5

Good Morning:

UPDATE: Since the last MMM, it has been learned that the Unitarian Church of Green Valley withdrew their offer on the vacant land opposite EE on Esperanza Blvd. on the grounds the parcel lacked sufficient usable property for the church’s purposes, following a survey. Apparently there was some kind of misunderstanding or misrepresentation about the amount of usable acreage available in the tract.

About 80 persons enjoyed the Very Spooky/Oktoberfest on October 31st at the ramada. Photos of the event will appear in the next Periodico. It was a beautiful, warm, balmy evening, just perfect for such an event . The Hospitality Committee outdid themselves on this one. The ramada and the tables were decorated appropriately, the food was great and the music was nostalgic. Emil and Priscilla Ziemer won the prize for the best costumes. This event was an enormous amount of effort by our Hospitality Committee, and they are deserving of our many thanks.

About 35 people enjoyed free beer at the ramada Friday night, November 2, courtesy of the Hospitality Committee. Many brought nibbles, and it was an enjoyable couple of hours, finishing the beer keg the Committee had bought for the Oktoberfest. This event was announced in a special supplement to the MMM, sent out October 31st.

The budget committee will meet today at 11:00 a.m. at the ramada. The meeting is open to any interested resident. Also, remember the Board meeting November 19th, at 1:00, at the ramada. The Board will be adopting next year’s budget, among other business.

Please remember the pool/spa hours changed November 1st, and the new hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These are the regular winter hours. No use of the pool or spa is allowed outside of these hours because they will be covered to conserve heat.

Due to the change in pool hours the pool aerobics class will now commence at 9:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 a.m. Please adjust your schedule accordingly.

On November 10th, there will be a household hazardous waste collection site at the Valley Presbyterian Church parking lot, 2800 S. Camino del Sol from 8 until noon. It allows for disposal of things that are acid, caustic, flammable, poisonous, or toxic. Old medications are also accepted, as is paint.

Neighborhood Watch captains and co-captains--remember the meeting on Saturday, the 17th of November at the ramada. Important matters will be discussed.

Neighborhood Watch also wishes to remind all residents about the Envelope of Life program. This is a program that was implemented by the Green Valley Fire District to help provide crucial information to EMS personnel at residential locations. The Envelope of Life is a small envelope that the user fills out with specific information they wish to share with responding medical emergency personnel. This includes pertinent information such as medical history, current medications, allergies, contacts, hospital preferences, etc. The envelope is typically kept on the outside of the refrigerator and is available to responders in the event the patient is alone and unable to provide this relevant information . One envelope will cover up to three separate individuals living in a household. Information can and should be changed as necessary. Do Not Resuscitate (DRN) papers can also be attached or referenced in the envelope.

The Envelope of Life is provided free of charge by the District and is available at all fire stations and the District administrative office. Mary Beth Wallace, our resident Neighborhood Watch chairperson, also has a supply. Call Mary Beth at 399-0299.

If you are having trouble with your streetlight and might need a solar light to fix the problem, please call Sheila Bennen for the phone number of a company that can help. Sheila’s phone is 399-0501. If you have somebody watching your place and that person is in charge of changing the light, please give them Sheila’s phone number. Also, if you have a realtor in charge of selling your home, please tell them if they see a warning note, to change the light or have someone do it, to avoid problems in the future.

We have learned of the passing of long-time resident Dr. Stuart Wiley on November 4th. Our sincerest condolences to the family.

There will not be a Memo next Monday as the editor will be traveling. Regular publication will continue the following week

A continuing welcome to our winter visitors, who are returning with regularity. Very nice to again see some of our most recent arrivers, Sam and June Simonson and Greg Gramstad and Barbara Cottrell, who got back to EE in the last couple of days. Nice to see all of our visitors!

Have a good week.
