Good Morning:

New Lamp Head Christmas Decoration Help

As you know, all EE lamp heads were changed over the summer months. In changing the heads, it was necessary in some cases to remove the wiring that had previously been used to connect Christmas lights. If you need help determining how to connect your Christmas decorations to electric power from the new head, help is available. You can call Jerry and Dolores McCall (204-6489); Boyd Morse (419-2489 or 625-1092); or Tom Cooke (399-0455) for assistance. The help is free, but any parts needed will be at your expense. Cost for the usual parts will run about $7.50. Please call as early in the season as possible.

It has been noted that a number of residents have already completed decorating their light pole, and are showing the requisite spirit. Good job! Hopefully the rest of us wont be too far behind.

A word of caution if you are working on your own light: the light pole top is hinged on one side and has a snap tab on the other. Be very careful when putting the top back on to make sure the hinge is correctly snapped together, and that the snap tab is securely clicked onto the body of the fixture. Not doing this carefully will likely result in the top blowing off in the next wind. If you have problems securing the top, please call 399-0455 for assistance.

If you need help in decorating your light pole, assistance is available at a cost of $10 if you have the decorations, and $15 if you do not. This price includes removal after the season, and of course, any decorations purchased become yours. Before calling to order this service, you must be sure you have a plug-in adapter (the device with a plug-in outlet that screws into the light socket). If you do not have this, it can be supplied, but at its cost to the decorator. When the light heads were changed over the summer, the old heads were placed inside the patio walls, so if you had such an adapter, that is where you will find it. Call 399-0455 for this service, and please call as early in the season as possible.

Pickleball hours have changed to commence at 10:00 a.m., instead of 9:30, due to chillier mornings. A Wednesday afternoon session has been added, for 2:00 p.m. To recap, games begin at 10:00.a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and at 2:00 p.m. Wednesdays.

On Wednesday, December 1, at 10 a.m., a decorating party will be held for those parts of our common areas that are decorated for the Christmas holidays--principally the Ramada itself and Sunset Park. Please meet at the Ramada. All of the decorations in storage will be gotten out and sorted, and installed to give the area a festive holiday look. Your assistance will be appreciated, and the task will only take a couple of hours, and will help continue our EE tradition of looking very festive for the holidays.

As mentioned last week, we are installing a Wi-Fi 'hotspot' to provide Internet access at Sunset Ramada and the pool on a trial basis. This service will be 'live' today (11/29), if Qwest installs on schedule.  In the past week, some EE residents asked: "Why not Wi-Fi for all of EE?"
Our webmaster offered his thoughts: "Because Wi-Fi uses low-power radio waves to connect PC's to the Internet, there are distance limits, as there are for cordless phones. A low-cost Wi-Fi base station can easily cover an area as big as the Ramada and pool, but not a great deal larger. To provide Wi-Fi to all houses in EE, covering an area of many tens of acres, would require multiple base stations and a complex installation that would cost many thousands of dollars."

We have a number of reports of a door-to-door solicitor recently in EE, trying to sell some type of household item. EE is well posted as a "no solicitors allowed" neighborhood. However our sidewalks are public property, and we cannot forbid their use to anyone, including solicitors. We have learned that the Pima Sheriff's office will not enforce our rules. Thus, the only way to keep them out of your yard is to post your front gate. Alternatively, just ask them to leave and close your door once you determine their purpose.

If you still have your old lamp head, and wish to see it go to a good home, then call Ann Hirz at 495-5405. She wants to purchase a number of them, and will explain her requirements when you call. Have a good week.

We hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
Now, 'tis the season to spend money!
