Monday Morning Memo-------------November 24th

Good Morning:

The Hospitality Committee will hold its annual free Christmas Party at Sunset Ramada on December 7, from 4 to 6 p.m.. They will supply all libations--drinks (alcoholic), mixes, soda, water, hot chocolate and ice-- AND lite hors d’ oeuvres, i.e. dips and chips. They ask that you bring your favorite hors d’ oeuvres to the Party.

As a highlight of the festivities, Fletchers will supply an organ, and Mary Beth Wallace and others will provide festive Christmas music. Wear your best Christmas attire, and bring your singing voice. It will be a great time, and a Christmas raffle will be held. Put this date on your calendar and don’t miss it!!

As a reminder, the Hamburger Nite scheduled for November 25th has been cancelled due its proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday.

On the EE burglaries, this just in from Bruce Liljegren, our GVCCC representative:

At our GVCCC meeting on Nov 20 I had the opportunity to ask Lt Sandy Rosenthal of the Pima County Sheriff's office some questions. They believe they have caught the 4 people involved in the theft ring stealing primarily Big Screen TV Sets. They have not been able to recover any items that were stolen. They also believe that 4 to 6 weeks or more go by before they receive any notice of break ins. He had some good points about having someone check vacant properties regularly, so they may be made aware of problems on a timely basis before the trail goes cold. Happy to discuss further. At any given time the sheriff's volunteers check 1,400 homes weekly that are empty. Many others don't get checked by them or anybody.

Our pickleball program is coming along nicely, with clinics each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9 to 11 at the tennis court. There will not be a clinic, however, on Thanksgiving Day. New players are appearing weekly, and our coach, Gary Beatty, continues teaching the best techniques for the game. It is a lot of fun and great exercise, so come and join us if you can. The game is addictive, and if you start you will continue. It is good to see much more use of our tennis court than has been the case in past times. New players are instructed to wear only white soled tennis shoes.

The 2009 HOA budget was approved at the Board meeting held Monday, November 17. Funds are being set aside for conversion of our pool from a chlorine disinfectant system to use of a salt water protocol to accomplish the same thing. This will result in a significant saving in chemical purchases, and will render the pool much more user-friendly. The conversion will take place in 2009 when the best bid is determined.

The Enhancement Team wishes to say thank you to all those who donated the great variety of special items that have come in for our Holiday Boutique. This will be part of our December 3rd Holiday Neighborhood Gathering at the Sunset Ramada, 9-noon. These items will make an impressive display and be offered at irresistible prices. As part of the gathering we will also have a bake sale and we need donations of cookies, muffins, cakes, breads and other holiday goodies. If you would like to use your favorite recipe and donate the delicious results, please call: Bev Brow, 625-7741, Tess Ewing, 625-7353, or Barb Cottrell, 648-3149.

The Men's Auxiliary of the Enhancement Team has just about completed the cabinet addition at the Ramada. They used a double sink and faucets donated by an EE resident. Bill Duncan and his able assistant Vince Brow tiled the countertops and Vince and Jim Lindberg did the painting. The whole area looks great! Thank you, guys! If you have not seen this great addition to our Sunset Ramada, be sure and stop by and take a look.

The Neighborhood Watch meeting that is scheduled for December 6 will be held at 2:00 p.m. instead of the previously scheduled time--still at Sunset Ramada.

The following message was received from our webmaster, Craig Surprise:

I have hesitated to complicate the Forum registration process beyond requiring a user to type a 5-character security code when first registering; but recently, as many as 25 new 'members' (spammers from Romania, Yugoslavia, Russia, China, Japan, ... !) have registered, and some then immediately posted messages (now deleted!) of the type that no legitimate Forum member should have to see.

As a result, registering for the Forum is now a two-step, 'delayed-activation' process. First, a new user is required to enter their information (username, e-mail address, etc.) Next, the information will be reviewed by the Forum administrator and an e-mail will then be sent to the user when their registration has been activated.

From a legitimate user's viewpoint, the only effect of this change is that they won't be able to post a message immediately after entering their registration information; they will first need to wait for the confirming e-mail which may take up to 12 hours. (From a spammer's viewpoint, they might enter their information, but they will never receive a follow-up e-mail nor be able to post any messages.)

What Craig is saying is that in order to keep unauthorized users from posting often obscene advertisements on our website, the process of registering to use the site has to be made a slightly more complicated for legitimate users to post messages. However it is a slight inconvenience only for the additional protection it offers. If you have difficulties in this regard, you can contact the webmaster through the site directly, or the editor, for help. Just follow the instructions on the instructions on the screen.

The first Bunco game will be held December 8 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Ramada, weather permitting. Please call 399-0455 or email melodye1@cox.net and let her know if you are coming. Thanks!

Three new memorial bricks have been installed at Sunset Ramada, honoring Roy Davis, Audrey Ware, and Emil Ziemer and Paul Rowland. The latter two gentlemen are, of course, still living, and this brick was given to them because of the honesty and integrity they displayed in dealing with one of our residents on some work she thought she needed done on her home, but did not, and they told her so. If you or your group might be interested in a memorial brick, please contact 399-0455 for further information. It is a great way to “make your mark” permanently in our subdivision, and do some good. All proceeds of brick sales are used for enhancements.

We are saddened to report the death of long-time EE resident and pioneer owner, Clay Crawford, on November 23rd. Clay was a former member of the Board in EE, and a very popular and friendly individual who will be much missed. He was a strong supporter of the HOA, and all of the volunteer committees and their efforts on behalf of the subdivision. Our condolences to Clay’s family.

This will be the last Memo before the Thanksgiving Holiday, so we extend our best to you for a blessed time with family and friends.

Have a good week, and enjoy your holiday.
