EE HOA, Green Valley, AZ
Monday Morning Memo

November 19, 2012        Esperanza Estates        Green Valley, AZ

Board Meeting Today
Our HOA board meets today at 1 pm at the Ramada. The proposed 2013 budget and proposed CC&R changes covering, among other things, paint colors, parking and the elimination of proxy voting are on the agenda. These are important changes that will effect the operation of our HOA, and homeowner attendance and input is encouraged.

GVFD Lock Boxes
Captain Jeff Mooney from the Green Valley Fire District will present information about Lock Boxes and the Fire Alarm Battery exchange programs today, immediately after the Board meeting at the Ramada. The presentation will be approximately 15 minutes.

Hikers Meeting Tuesday
Join your neighbors at the Ramada for a meeting of the EE Hikers, Tuesday, November 20, at 10 am. Anyone interested in participating in one hike or many, is welcome to join in on this informal planning session. Past hikes ranged from 2 miles of flat hiking to 5 miles of rocky terrain with significant altitude gain.

Coffee and Donuts
Chat with your neighbors over a cup of coffee or tea this Wednesday at the Ramada. Donut selection is at its best at 8:30 am. Thanks to the Millers and the Cookes for making this morning get together free to EE residents.

Sunday Night Movies/Concerts
The Sunday Night Concert on November 25th will be Neil Young: Heart of Gold. The legendary singer-songwriter performs selections from his album "Prairie Wind" and reworked versions of some classics. Place: Flag Park, weather permitting. Please bring lawn chairs. If it rains, we will be in the Ramada. We will have a bonfire starting about 5:30, and the concert begins at 6:00 p.m.  Admission: donation to EE Arts Club ($2.00 suggested). Announcements of performances will be posted in advance at the Ramada and in this memo if available. To receive an email about upcoming performances, contact Kevin Welsh at welsh.kj@gmail.com.

Burger Night a Hit
Last Wednesday's Burger Night brought together 86 EE residents for food and conversation. Thanks to the Hospitality Committee for hosting another great event. They make it look easy, but it's a lot of hard work and we appreciate their efforts.

Show Your Pride In EE
Advertise your pride in EE everywhere you go by displaying an EE license plate on the front of your car or golf cart. These beautiful plates are the brainchild of EE Gardener Bill Berdine. Currently, there are two designs to choose from: the EE logo (shown in the MMM heading) and an EE sunset. The Gardeners are selling the plates for $10 each and the plates will be on display at Ramada events and on our web site (click here to see both plates.) To place an order contact Bill at 520-344-7301 or whberdine@roadrunner.com. Proceeds will go to the EE Gardeners, who will use the funds to beautify our common areas.

It's Tinsel Time In EE
One of EE's long standing traditions is decorating our lamp posts for the holidays. Decorating starts right after Thanksgiving, and the earlier they are finished, the sooner our neighborhood looks festive. Many GV residents enjoy driving through EE during the holiday season and viewing our creative decorations.
If you prefer not to do the decorating yourself, an Enhancement Elf will be happy to help you. The effort will be headed by Head Elf Jackie Rautio, whose phone is 269-7864. Call Jackie to make arrangements if you wish to avail yourself of this service. The deadline is December 15, so don't wait. The cost is a nominal $10 if you have your own decorations, and $15 if you don't--but the decorations then become yours. If you don't have the adapter that goes into the socket on your lamp post, then the charge will be $2 additional; however, you will then own the adapter.
The Enhancement Team is looking for lots of volunteers to help decorate the Esperanza monument, Esperanza Estates Park, and the Sunset Park monument. Please call Barb McCalpin at 867-8067 if you would like to help out. It's always a fun activity.

Let's Go Caroling
A group of residents wants to enhance EE's holiday spirit by organizing a group of carolers to stroll through EE one night before Christmas. You don't have to be a great singer to join. All voices are welcome. If you are interested, please reply to ee.mondaymorningmemo@gmail.com.

Baby On Board?
The Enhancement Team has come up with a great new idea to help residents when they have young guests. The team will acquire equipment such as car seats, highchairs and strollers, and lend them to residents when babies and toddlers come to visit. The team plans to purchase the equipment, but will gladly accept donations. If you have any items to donate, please call Lorna Kitchak at 838-0653. You can learn more about the new service in the November Periodico, which will be published next week.

Email Address List
The EE address and phone numbers directory has been a popular item for many years. It helps you quickly find the address or phone number for an EE resident. A similar listing for email addresses is now being created. If you would like your email address to be included in this listing, contact the webmaster at ee-webmaster@msn.com. The directory will be available in January.

Calling All Fiber Artists
Interested in fiber arts? Join Donna Shay at the Ramada on Tuesday, November 27, at 1:00 p.m. Experienced fiber artists, novices, and those who are just thinking about it are welcome.

Pickleball Pruners
A crew of pickleball players, led by Kevin Welsh, spent a good part of last Sunday trimming the oleanders surrounding the tennis/pickleball court on del Sur. There was substantial dead material in the hedge due to drought conditions in prior years, which has all now been removed. Attractiveness of the oleanders has been substantially improved. Many thanks to the workers who aided in this effort.

Enhancement Team Gears Up For Spring Ramada/Bake Sale
The team is planning ahead for the Ramada/Bake Sale on March 2. Donate all your "treasures" to this sale which benefits the further enhancement of EE. The team can use furniture, housewares, linens, art, collectibles, books, toys and games. Just about anything except clothing. You can arrange for items to be picked up or you can bring them to: Lorna Kitchak (838-0653), Jackie Rautio (269-7864), Jane Ellingson (625-7782), or Sandi Oster (625-0039). The team also needs people to offer their garage or storage area and the use of a truck or suitable vehicle to transport items from storage the day before the sale. If you can help out, please call Sandi at 625-0039.

Time To Vote
Nominations for names for the two common area spaces on Circulo del Norte are in, and now it's time to vote for your favorite. You can also vote on whether to rename Esperanza Estates Park as Flag Park. The candidates are:

      Palo Verde Park
            Palo Verde del Norte Park
                  Community Spirit Park

To vote, send an email to ee.mondaymorningmemo@gmail.com with your favorites. The deadline for submitting your votes is December 15th.

Wedding Bells Rang At The Ramada
The EE Ramada has been the scene of many wonderful events since it was built in 2006, and now it can tout being a destination wedding venue. Congratulations to Ron Zinn and Sunshine Bondy (niece of EE residents Donald and Evelyn Winfrey) who were married there on Sunday.

GVC Road Workshop
GVC is offering a workshop about road maintenance on Tuesday, November 27, 1:30 p.m. at Green Valley Village, Suite 24.  Although the workshop is oriented toward those HOA's that own their streets, you will learn how the County assesses street condition and what remedial action is suited to what condition. Reservations are required.  If you are interested in attending, call 648-1936 to reserve a seat.
