November 16

Good Morning:

The regular November Board meeting will be held today at 1:00 at Sunset Ramada.
A meeting agenda appears below.  All residents are invited to attend.

We had an issue with the spa this past week. The county health department did a spot check and found the chlorine level to be too low, so they closed it.  As soon as the chlorine was adjusted, they permitted it to be reopened, which it was. That was the only problem.  We employ a pool service to be here three times weekly to check the pool chemicals and adjust them as needed.  Apparently there was a foul-up somewhere, and we are looking into it.

Hamburger Nite last Tuesday was enjoyed by 90 people. Our Hospitality Committee did their usual excellent job, and it was a social evening to be sure. So nice to see all of our returning winter visitors, some new faces as well, and the weather couldn’t have been better. Many thanks to the Committee, and all who attended to support them. This kind of activity makes our EE community so much richer, and friendlier. The hard work of our Hospitality Committee is much appreciated. The Ramada was in great shape, and is serving our community beautifully.

We have been advised about a case of swarming bees being sighted in our subdivision.  Use caution if you encounter many bees in an area -- suggesting a swarm may be near by.  If you find one, it's suggested you contact a beekeeper or exterminator for advice.

Members of our Enhancement Team met with professional engravers Paul and Rosalie Brinkmeyer this past week to discuss and plan for the pet memorial which the Team intends to sponsor this winter at Sunset Ramada. One of the Ramada pillars will be a designated place for special memorials to your furry or feathered friends, and there will be small statuettes of a dog and cat and a mouse, who will be representatives of all of our special pet friends from the animal kingdom. This is going to be really something special, and something so unique you will never see anything like it anywhere else. So watch for more details. All proceeds from the sale of pet memorials will go toward further Ramada enhancements. The Brinkmeyers have given the Team such a good price break that the plaques can be offered for sale for the small price of only $25. For this sum you will receive a nice 2 ˝ x 4 inch plaque, engraved with your message and the name of your pet.

Sample messages for memorial plaques will be on display at the Enhancement Team’...
Wine and Cheese Party coming up on December 2, at 4:00pm. You are all invited to this party!  It’s a freebee, so put it on your calendar; come one, come all. There will be many gift items to browse while you enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and some cheese nibbles, so we will see you there!

Two new sun/wind screens have been ordered by the Team for the Ensalmo side of Sunset Ramada. This was possible because of the great success of the moving/garage sale on Napa a couple of weeks ago. Future fund raising will go toward the acquisition of the three remaining screens necessary to complete the full screening of the Ramada. This will make our gathering place practically completely enclosable.

Some brand new signs have been prepared by Men’s Auxiliary Enhancement Team member Jim Lindberg for the annual EE Team patio sale, and they look great. They will undoubtedly attract a lot of attention and buyers to the sale, which will be held in the spring. The Team is saying they now have “the best little patio sale signs in the southwest.” Thanks as well to Team members Lance Ewing and Vince Brow for their preparatory work on the sale and the storage facility for sale items. Speaking of storage, the Team is in need of additional storage for the donated items, so if you have a space in your garage, or know of somewhere vacant that the Team could use for storage purposes, please call Tess Ewing at 625-7353, or Bev Brow at 625-7741. Sale items are always in need as well, so remember the Team when you have items that you are thinking of discarding.

The Team never quits!

The Arizona Daily Star has made the EE HOA a special offer, provided through G.M. Marketing, located right here in EE. This involves a discount of more than half off of the newsstand price of the daily and Sunday editions of the Star, and is for new subscribers only (a new subscriber is someone who has not had the paper delivered in the past 30 days). The rates are:

2 months for $20

3 months for $30

6 months for $60

12 months for $120

As an extra bonus for the HOA, a 2 month paid subscription gets a $5 donation to our HOA. A longer subscription gets this $5 donation plus a $5 gift certificate to the subscriber.

To order or for questions, call George Corral at 399-0227, cell 490-7611

Thanks to Greg and Barb Gramstad for posting the MMM at the Ramada bulletin board weekly.

Watering of the Oleanders at the tennis/pickleball court is progressing, and we should be able to bring them back to health. Many thanks to John Meek for allowing his water connection to be used.

Light post decoration is right around the corner. Traditionally, the posts are decorated right after the Thanksgiving holiday. If you don’t care to do it, we have two elves, Melodye and Sheila, who will decorate your post for you. If you have the decorations, including the light plug-in adaptor, the cost is a mere $10.  If you don’t have decorations and need to have them supplied, the cost is $15. The charge includes taking the decorations down at the end of the holiday season as well. Call 399-0455 to make arrangements.

Sunday morning pickleball has come to pass. Games begin at 9:00 am at the tennis/pickle ball court. Come on up and play!

The following is from KC Thompson, one of our EE residents, who thought this was an idea worthy of being passed around:

I heard the following information on the radio regarding a project I thought was a great idea for our military overseas.

The web site for sending love boxes for our deployed soldiers is: www.loveboxesforourtroops.com

There is an instructional video as well as a list of suggested items. I bought jerky at Costco yesterday to include and plan on including sandwich sized ziplock bags so they can carry some along in their pocket.

We do have to send them to a specific soldier or unit. There is a list of soldiers on the site or you may know of someone who would appreciate receiving one of these tokens of our appreciation for their service.

The post office has the boxes which are 12 x 12 x 5 1/2. The cost of mailing is $11.95 regardless of weight.

A friend of mine advised that you need to request an apo/fpo flat rate box and let them know it is for the military.  Also, her son who is stationed in Iraq, advised her not to insure the box as it may be very difficult for them to have to go and sign for the package.

The web site says there is a form, 2976A, listing the contents, value and a signature that needs to be filled out.  It takes 7-10 days for the package to arrive.

Thanks, Casey

Casa de Esperanza, a wonderful local organization that helps our community in all manner of ways, has scheduled its first annual Beautiful “U” program for this November 21. It is described as a day to celebrate the beauty in and around women of all ages. Registration is at 9:00 am and there will be various classes all day on all phases of things interesting to women, such as skin and makeup, hair and wigs, relaxation techniques, fashions, and other things as well. Elegant, healthy food (provided by La Posada) will be served and is included in the cost of a ticket, and there will be entertainment of various types, along with vendors who will demonstrate products of interest to women. Tickets can be obtained from Melodye at 399-0455 at a cost of $20. They are selling fast, and space is limited, so please hurry if you wish to attend.

Have a good week.
