Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, AZ

November 15

Good Morning:

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of Esperanza Estates will be held today at the Ramada, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The meeting agenda appears below in this edition of the Memo. All residents are invited to attend.

The Hospitality Committee's monthly Hamburger Nite festivities last Tuesday were highly successful.  More than 80 residents enjoyed hamburgers and a social time together.  (This month's winner of the Periodico trivia quiz reportedly enjoyed their free 'burger even more than usual!) The whole Committee worked hard--just as they always do.  Watch for this event on the second Tuesday of each month.  It was nice to see all of the returning winter residents again.  We have learned that 51 pounds of food items were collected for our local Food Bank. Thanks to all who donated to the food collection effort.

The next Hospitality Committee event will be held December 7, as a Pearl Harbor Day potluck. This will begin at the Ramada at 5 o'clock, and attendees are asked to bring a special dish to share. Hospitality will provide beverages. Make your plans now to attend this event.

Free Coffee & Donuts at the Ramada was held last Wednesday morning, and was enjoyed by about 40 people. Be sure and watch for this event, held monthly the second Wednesday of each month. It is an enjoyable time to socialize with your neighbors, and snack on a donut--or other type of pastry--and a cup of coffee. The father of this event is Ken Miller, so say thanks when you see him.

Many thanks to Bruce Liljegren and Gary Chelseth for planting and tending 3 new cactus plants on Ensalmo, next to the pool enclosure. The area there had become rather barren due to the death of several of the cacti formerly in that location, and the new ones spruce up the area very nicely. Thanks much, guys!

Our Pickleball program is going well so far, with good attendance at the games being held Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at the tennis/pickleball court. Starting time is 9:30 a.m., and players and interested potential players are invited. Instruction is available and free of charge.

With the colder evenings, the pool and spa covers are now in use nightly to save natural gas. The covers are put in place at 7 p.m. when the pool closes for the night.

A few residents have organized a Landscape Work Day to give Stoney a hand with some landscape maintenance work around EE.  If you are interested in helping out, meet at the Ramada on December 15th, immediately after the monthly free Coffee & Donuts.  No long term commitment required.  Just spend as much time as you want.  Every little bit helps. Please bring gloves and clippers if you have them.

Here is the text of an article that appeared in the October edition of the Trico Electric Co-op monthly publication,  "The Livewire":

Trico Member saves $7,200 a year!

Esperanza Estates, a 351 home subdivision in Green Valley served by Trico, changed 331 street lamps from 60 watt incandescent bulbs to 13 watt CFLs. That gave a savings of approximately $600 a month, or $7,200 a year in electricity costs being paid by the homeowners.

"The reason we decided to make this change is the light fixtures that were in here were 25-30 years old," said Thomas Cooke, HOA president at Esperanza Estates. "They were pretty beat up. We had an odd collection of different wattages of bulbs. The board decided we should have a more uniform appearance. They decided to change the bulbs at the same time they changed the lamp heads."

"The difference in appearance of the street lighting and the amount of useful light at night is phenomenal. We figured it would probably save a lot of power, also."

Have a good week.
