Green Valley, AZ

October 17

Good Morning:

The second fall Board meeting following the summer recess will be held today, beginning at 1:00, at the Ramada.  A meeting agenda is included below. All residents are invited to attend.

The evenings are cool, the mornings are crisp and the days are warm. The winter residents are returning, so let's jump into fall. The first Hamburger Night was well attended and people are reconnecting.

At the Burger Night, the sale of name tags has reached 110 thanks to the efforts of Melodye Cooke. Tags are still available from Melodye for $6. Please help those of us who are name "rememberingly" challenged and need assistance in reducing social anxiety.

The Hazardous Waste collection drew a lot of people last Saturday. There will be another in the Spring; we will keep you posted.

We received a thank you note from the Food Bank for the 91 pounds of food donated at our social events. Let's keep up the good work, there is such a great need and we can make a difference.

Free coffee and no calorie donuts are available on Wednesday the 19th, at the Ramada. This quietly understated event has resulted in friendships being formed and action being taken to improve our community.   A prime example of this is the assistance with weed control.  Last season, an informal group pitched in to spend a few hours removing weeds in common areas. Efforts like this are spontaneous and reflect the character of our community.

Keep an eye out for an announcement about the resumption of Pickleball activity in the next few weeks. Pickleball has taken root in EE; the game is great exercise and is named after a Cocker spaniel; they are great dogs.

The October issue of the Periodico will be available on our web site by the end of next week.

After all this positive news comes an item that is very frustrating. EE has been besieged by a second indiscriminate delivery of phone books. This irresponsible activity requires us to protect our absent neighbors by picking up the books and placing them out of sight. The books are wasteful of natural resources and of little use. We have a great local phone book made available by the Green Valley Council.  The GVC book is the major source of funding for that group and is very useful.

Have a good week,

Joe
